General Managers predict Durant as MVP over LeBron, Lakers three-peat

Oct 6, 2010, 11:50 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Durant_dunk.jpgYou’re not the only one who thinks there will be voter fatigue — or backlash, if you wish — against LeBron James when it comes time for MVP voting.

General managers around the NBA seem to think so, according to the results published at TrueHoop. In its annual survey of GMs, found one just one vote for LeBron James to three-peat as MVP. One. Same as Dwight Howard. Kevin Durant was the runaway winner with two-thirds of the vote.

Durant may well be MVP (he’s my pick) and he will be deserving — he was the league’s leading scorer last year and the clear leader on an up-and-coming team that could make the next step this season.

But James is the two-time, clear winner MVP and now will be the best player on one of the best teams in the league.

The fact that just one GM (can I guess Pat Riley?) voted for James speaks more the James burnout than anything. Around the league teams are tired (and a little jealous) of all the Heat talk. They want to knock them off the perch.

Those same GMs think the Lakers will — 63 percent predict a three-peat for the Lakers. The Heat got one-thirds of the votes, the Celtics got one vote.

Other votes include:

* John Wall got 68 percent of the vote as the likely Rookie of the Year, with Clippers’ Blake Griffin second.

* Deron Williams got half the vote to be named best point guard over Chris Paul, the first time D-Will has beat CP3.

* For the first time in eight years, Tim Duncan was not named best power forward. Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol tied for that honor.

* As you would expect, Dwight Howard was the best center running away, LeBron the best small forward and Kobe the best two guard. Kobe also won the vote for guy you most want taking the last shot, for the ninth straight year.

* Derrick Rose was voted fastest with the ball, Ray Allen the best pure shooter.

* The most fun team to watch according to GMs? The Oklahoma City Thunder. They got that one right.

Isn’t it great that 96% of the GM’s pick one of two teams to win the championship? Between that and the league being over-run with egotistical thugs, I wonder how the ratings will do in the next couple of years.

  2. It's Me - Oct 6, 2010 at 1:57 PM

Lebron James is an over-rated and over-paid idiot.

  3. Kim - Oct 6, 2010 at 2:34 PM

This is for It’s Me: I love you! :) Anyone that makes a comment like that about LBJ, I love!

  4. George Mason - Oct 6, 2010 at 2:45 PM

Anyone who does not think that LeBron James is one of the top three players in the league does not know crap about basketball.

  5. Pfft2Lebron - Oct 6, 2010 at 2:52 PM

George: Lebron is still one of the most skilled players in the league, but his value {as in Most Valuable} took a nosedive when decided to let D-Wade carry him on his back.

It’s terribly sad that some people can’t stop but talk about LeBron James. Is your world that small that your internet life revolves around taking shots at someone who has no idea who you are? I feel for you.
Anyhow, Durant should be the preseason favorite for MVP as he’s more valuable to his team than LBJ is to his, which is the point of the award.

    Hey Kim:
I am actually a woman, but I am definitely into a girl-on-girl if you want.

About time that LeBoring James, the King of Choke, got the disrespect he so richly deserves! Only the moron sports pundits think this self-serving ballhog has skills. Kevin Durant is a far better individual and team player than LeBoring can ever hope to be. Kobe Bryant is still the greatest basketball player in the world and he delivers in the clutch during the playoffs. Kobe is a lock for Finals MVP yet again, the only MVP that really counts. The Gm’s got it right that the Repeat World Champion Lakers will Threepeat next June!

d wade is definetly the fastest player

  15. Timothy DeTillio - Oct 6, 2010 at 6:38 PM

Durant won the scoring title last season and he plays for a very good team, so it’s not like he’s the only one scoring on a bad team. He got robbed last season because he is IMO better than James because he’s a pure shooter and he can knock down contested shots from anywhere on the floor like he’s wide open. Durant also has one of the most explosive moves to the bucket. Oh and lets not forget he can play some D.

Santonio Holmes is not sorry or apologetic about his actions leading to suspension

  17. SFWA - Oct 6, 2010 at 10:03 PM

LeNoJumpShot is easily one of the 3 best athletes, but until he can consistently mix it up underneath to seize a tough rebound and hit open looks from the outside he is NOT even in the top 10 best hoops players and that’s no crap dude!

  18. SFWA - Oct 6, 2010 at 10:06 PM

    ME TOO!!!!!

  19. Will - Oct 7, 2010 at 8:09 AM

I am not a huge fan of Lebron. He is nor professional…and he is still a bit immature. He definitely could have handled hismove to Miami in a much more courteous way with Cleveland fans and the team. BUT how is he a cheat and what did he lie about? I think some of you are exaggerating and being immature about your feelinsg on Lebron…probably because you wish he was on your favorite team?

Sorry for those outbursts, everyone. My tampon was itching.

  23. Jim E. - Oct 7, 2010 at 10:11 AM

Heck…Forget about Lepunk. Wade & Bosh own him now. He will never be MVP again. He stuck it to the Cavs and he stuck it to the NBA (as did Wade & Bosh) by planning to be together on the same team several years ago. He isn’t even the best player on his own team anymore. I want to hear more from “Its Me” and “Kim”.
