Heat first practice "intense," LeBron has ice on elbow

Sep 28, 2010, 2:30 PM EDT

Thumbnail image for Heat_logo.gifThere was no discussion of it and it is probably nothing, but you had to notice — LeBron James had an ice pack on his right elbow, the one that gave him problems though the playoffs, after the Heat’s first day of practice Tuesday.

What should we read into that? Not much. NBA teams go through more ice at the end of a practice than Matsumoto Shave Ice does on a hot day. Everybody gets everything wrapped in ice. Still, something to watch going forward.

Aside that, the reports from our man Ira Winderman from the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Michael Wallace of the Miami Herald are of a pretty intense first practice. A lot of pent up energy to be burned off. As Winderman quoted Bosh saying:

“Everything is going to be intense the first day. It’s sustaining that intensity.”

Wallace added “LeBron’s 4-man team of Pat Beverley, Joel Anthony and James Jones dominated last stretch of work.”

Aside that, media didn’t get to see much of real interest. Nor will they all week — that was the reason the Heat took off to Eglin Air Force Base near Pensacola in the first place. To get the Heat to bond away from prying eyes for a week.

So, we’ll keep prying and brining you updates. Because we care.

And in far less important news, a 17-month-old boy was beaten to death in Pennsylvania by his mother’s boyfriend for being “too girly.”
Figured I’d post it here, since NBC couldn’t run the story on its main pages due to the need to save column inches to report on peoples’ achy joints.

John is right, there is no place for racism in sports. What do anglos get by constantly maligning african-american athletes? I don’t see the same level of animosity leveled towards other non-whites, such as Yao Ming. I don’t see reports emerging about Yao’s iced elbows. This is plainly racism in full swing, unfortunately.

John—white guys heading to south Florida to basically worship black guys and you consider this racist some how?
I see it more as a punk that is getting his excuse together when he is questioned about quitting in the Boston series. Uh…I guess my elbow was messed up a little more than I lead on….uh……..
The only reason there is still racism in this country is because people like you make sure of it.
I’m sure that 30-50 thousand a year reporter would like to change places with any of the three amigos no matter what the skin color is. These guys get anything they want and there is a race issue.
    Please

  6. iron hand - Sep 28, 2010 at 4:42 PM

Man please, leave the race baiting on another site. Sports writers regardles of the color of their skin, have nothing better to write about. The shlock sports center drivin media, made this fool a mesiah. He is not god or a king, all he does is play basketball. He makes the kind of money that most americans cannot comprehend. We as a society, need to stop buying this hero celebrity crap. Our culture is heading for the toilet. As a black man, I could care less what this clown does. As my grandmother used to say,”if it don’t put food on the table who cares”.

Talk about racism at its finest. This is why the black community is more racist than any whites.

Right. Hurlburt Field is part of the Eglin AFB reservation; however, Hurlburt is, in fact, a separate military installation and home of the Joint Special Operations Command — you know, Special Forces. And very special people, indeed. We’re all glad, here in Fort Walton Beach, (near Pensacola? not really — that’s like saying that Boca Raton is near Miami)that the HEAT is in our midst.

LeBron is to elbow as Pinocchio is to nose.

Wow, you sound like a racist.
He is reporting on a star player, not a color.
You need to get over it.
Go get a job as a black writer and change the world.

LaEgo is starting up the “I had a bad game because of my sore elbow” excuse machine already? A bunch of medical people have looked at his supposedly injured elbow and they could find NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.
Instead how about dude cannot make jump shots to save his life, but he will not put in a minute of work during the NBA off season to improve his game. PLEASE JUST GO AWAY YOU OVER-RATED SELF-PROMOTING LOSER.
The first time LaJerk clangs a couple of jumpers off the iron in crunch time and the Heat lose the game because of it I guarantee dude will break his excuse bag out and he’ll say with a straight face “I really should have been sitting with this unbelievably painful elbow, but I gutted it out and then barely missed a jump shot or two down the stretch”.
