Denver, Philadelphia talking Carmelo Anthony, Andre Iguodala trade

Sep 26, 2010, 8:04 PM EDT

anthony_thumbsup.jpgUPDATE 8:04 pm: The Daily News is now reporting that Anthony’s people said he would not sign an extension in Philly. Which would make any other negotiations moot.

Basically, Melo’s people trying to keep the Knicks and Bulls in play, the Nuggets keep looking for the best deal with little interest in making Melo happy.

Let me take another swing at the drum I keep beating: At some point both sides are going to have to compromise a little and just come to a deal. Right now they are like two four-year-olds fighting over a toy, at some point they will mature and figure this out or nobody will get to play.

5:37 pm: The Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers are talking about an Andre Iguodala for Carmelo Anthony swap.

That according to the Philadelphia Daily News. This trade would give the Nuggets a quality young wing player to replace Anthony, you can see why the Sixers would be interested. Also, Iguodala has three years plus a player option left on his player deal.

However, there would be a couple of questions about such a deal.

To make the salaries work, other players would need to be involved. Who are those players? It would determine how good a deal it is for both sides.

More importantly, would Anthony sign an extension in Philadelphia? They have some nice young players in Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner, but they are not a contender and not a market he mentioned as wanting to go to. (Is Philly’s young core really as good as New Jersey’s?)

The LeBron-level speculation about Anthony continues. We’ll see if these talks have any legs. A lot of teams have reached out to the Nuggets, but that is different than really having a deal.

Don’t like Melo to Philly. I like him in New Jersey. He’ll be near his home town, Brooklyn, New York, and he’ll have a better chance to win and land Chris Paul. New Jersey has better talent and Melo wants to go there anyway. The team is moving to Brooklyn in 2 years too. Also, why would Denver want Andre Iguodala rather than possibly Derrick Favors and draft picks.

Lebron-level speculation? C’mon Son! I don’t think 10 million people would tune into a show to see where Carmelo is gonna get traded to.

Melo to Nets sounds better. Melo and Evan Turner wouldn’t be bad but Melo, Brook Lopez, Troy Murphy and Terrence Williams sounds better. He wouldn’t go there anyway. He wants to go to New Jersey and possibly lure Chris Paul. Also, he’ll be where he grew up and his wife, LaLa would benefit from the there. Also, him being in the East doesn’t mean it’ll come easy. Even with Chris Paul in the future, they still have to beat Miami, Orlando and maybe Boston if their not to old then. But I’d rather see Melo in NJ.

Nets new owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, is doin work this season! He’s doing a great job of luring talent and making things happen in New Jersey/Brooklyn. Bring Melo to New Jersey and then get Chris Paul in 2012. I don’t like them possibly giving up Derrick Favor though.

i dont like carmelo on the sixers, but iguodala going to the nuggets sounds good! i say do it!

Get Melo to New Jersey and sign Camden’s Finest….Dajuan Wagner, The Messiah.

melo to knicks for toney gallo chandler and a 1st rd pick which they would probably get back from houston for anthony randolph because houston wants him

Melo wouldn’t want to go to Sixers. Sorry Philly, but Doug Collins should go for Deng as their replacement for Iggy. Check out this three way trade in the trade machine:
    Denver Gets:
Noah, Iguodala, and Kapono and 2 draft picks.
    Chicago Gets:
    Anthony and Speights
    Philadelphia Gets:
Smith, Deng, and Gibson + draft pick
Wow. This would make all parties involved happy. Maybe Deng’s contract to Philly, but Doug Collins repeated and says that Deng is the best mid range shooter in the game. It looks like all parties would be happy with this…
    Denver Benefits:
They get Noah and Iggy as their prize possessions to keep them in the playoffs. Add Kapono to give you the spark off the bench like JR Smith did last few years. They get expiring contracts
    Chicago Benefits:
Well they get Melo, but loose Noah. Its best to loose Noah, b/c he demands a 5 yr / $70. They get Speights as they can have their chances of resigning him at a bargain basement price. They have their center and Speights brings it to work everyday.
    Philadelphia Benefits:
By getting Deng, as his mid range jump shot will compliment Evan Turner’s game. He won’t demand the ball as Evan Turner will be the main creator off the dribble. They also get a probably re-energized JR Smith that can replace Kapono with ease. Plus they get a work horse in Taj Gibson.
If you are Philly you are all after this trade. The downfall is trying to convince Philly that they save money over 4 years by having Deng over Iggy’s contract. Not much, but every 1 million helps by creating cap space.

Carmello’s people have said he wants to play with Amare in NY.
Don’t rule out Nash figuring a way to get there too. Sarver wants to dump, slary,,, and if PHX stinks it up by Jan 1st who knows? What other PG in the league besides Nash is willing to take 5 shots a game so Melo and Amare can have theirs and be happy.

  10. Jim - Sep 27, 2010 at 10:32 AM

How do the Nets have more talent than the Sixers? Sixers have a future all star point guard in Jrue Holliday and the best player last year in college basketball at the two guard. Put those two guys with Carmelo Anthong and you have three potential superstars all under the age of 26. The Nets blew it with Derrick Favors and are trying to correct that mistake! Favors has no offensive game as he showed this in college.
Carmelo to Sixers is the deal and Anthony will eventually agree. The Nuggets would get Iguadola who they want far more than anybody the Nets would offer.

This Carmelo thing is getting ugly…I want to see who folds 1st.. ESPN said the New jersey thing fell through b/c Melo was stutter-stepping on the extension. I think he realized if NJ trades Favors and Harris they won’t have no team around him. For the praise people give Brook Lopez, he was only able to contribute to 12 wins last season…I like Terrence Williams more than most, but when you only win 12 games everybody’s character has to be in question. New York has nothing to offer, and even if they did move him there, they would be a first round exit…Chicago won’t give up Joakim Noah, rightfully so b/c he’s the heart & soul of that team…I’d hate to be Masai Ujiri right now…I just wonder if caves in???

  12. KH - Sep 27, 2010 at 12:41 PM

Why would the Sixers want Loul Deng lol. Andre Igoudala is a much better player. Taj Gibson is no better then Speights. Actually he must less talented then Speights but plays harder and has a better head on his shoulders. There is no way the Sixers trade Igoudala for Deng + Gibson.
