Mark Cuban not done banging on the Heat, says they're a team "only locals can love"

Sep 24, 2010, 11:24 AM EDT

Cuban_Stern.jpgOkay Mark, we get it.

Mark Cuban thinks people will hate the new Miami Heat, then will tune in to watch and root against them. And that at the end of the day that is good for the league because people are watching and involved.

Cuban did a chat with the Fort Worth Star Telegram and more things to say about the Heat (via Ira Winderman):

“I actually like the way it went down. They are going to be a team only the locals can love. Which means there is going to be a lot of interest in not liking the Heat. Which is great for the league…

“As far as future teams doing the same thing, Donnie and Nellie taught me years ago that the worst GMs in the league are active players,” Cuban offered. “They aren’t very good at player evaluation and even worse at understanding how to put together a team.

“Maybe it will work for the Heat, maybe it won’t. But if this is a trend, it won’t be long before someone bets the Trifecta and loses big.

Cuban is right that current players are terrible at putting a team together. No worse than some GMs, we should add.

And we agree — there will be plenty of hate for the Heat out there. We’ve indexed it and everything.

But the drum beat of this is wearing on us. Time to move on. Camps are opening and it is time for the public to decide who they like and don’t, who they watch and don’t, and why. That includes the Heat.

Theres only one team i’ll dislike the most, the team that’s always used the art of finding loop holes in the refs calling defencive penaltys, the grabing, pushing, hacking, always trying to cheat the game, turning it into ugly, barely watchable game, started by old red in the 60’s, taking the art out the game, now with shaq it’s going to be hidious

I hate Mark Cuban. Not really. I just don’t care what he
thinks. Does anybody? What Cuban really means is that middle
aged white men like himself will hate the Heat. The younger generation will love this team.

the man is still bitter about the whoppin’ the Heat laid on them back in 06. don’t worry mark, you don’t have to worry about it happening again because there is no way in hell dallas will make it back to the NBA Finals anytime soon.

I think all the haters need to understand the game. Championships are won and lost as a team! Everyone wants there team to be a champion; that’s why we are fans. The (BEST) team does not always win, but on any given night or series the unthinkable can happen. That’s why we watch, cheer, and why they play the game! Good luck Miami, and to all the fans of all who cheer for the success of their favorite team!

“show me one team that won a championship with one good player. You know it’s okay for the Laker’s to stack up and Orlando to stack up but when they get out stack it’s a problem. D-wade, you got help now baby. GO heat” Fort pierce/PSl.

  17. D-BOY - Sep 25, 2010 at 12:44 PM

Please tell me if these team arn’t stacked up. Boston, Orlando, Chicago is trying, Lakers, Dallas, is trying lol. Atlanta, is trying, lol. New York, is trying lmfao. now look at New Jersey trying to get Melo. now tell me again whats wrong with what the miami Heat did. it’s really hard to compete in the East. Whatcha” scared of? Do your thing Heat” Fort Pierce/Psl florida.

a shame that people envy that these three players were able to control their destinies. all the reasons they come up with for the team not being successful are pathetic. especially the one about sharing the basketball. obviously all three consider this a nonfactor in deciding to join forces.

  19. LaShun - Sep 26, 2010 at 7:20 PM

Mark Cuban, again?! I guess the lost to THE MIAMI HEAT in 2006 still has you with a BITTER taste in your mouth…lol! Maybe the next time (if the opportunity EVER presents itself agian)you won’t jump the gun in preparing for a CHAMPIONSHIP parade. Remember: IT’S NOT OVER TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS! Take music lessons because obviously you are still tone deaf to the 2006 Championship! Hate on Miami all you want. In the end, whether we win or lose to get to the playoffs, Miami WILL ALWAYS BE THE 2006 NBA CHAMPIONS OVER the Dallas Mavericks! Now chew on that curd! lol
