The Heat’s needs will be fulfilled by adding players that are willing to give their best, and not allow the opposing team to either catch-up or run the score up. If recent signees’, and additions, are willing to demonstrate their “debatable” skills to the utmost the outcome will be success. It is more about personality and character.

I don not agree with pdbro. I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about. Pau is not all that nibble either. Dampier is a perfect fit and does not need a have a high basketball IQ with the fire power around him. He shot over 60% last year, can rebound and defend. He can’t be that bad if he was due $13 million last year. Is he a Dwight, no but he can be a needed presence when we face Dwight. Shaq has his time in Miami, never again. I would rather trust Pat and his staff then let’s say a pdbro.

I agree with the two previous comments, but all the heat really needed was a big body for the bigger centers in the league. Dampier’s minutes will be limited given the fact the Heat still have Ilgauskas, Anthony, Pittman (this is assuming thy release Magloire). They will be unstoppable and there is no reason the Heat should not dominate this year

Sure this guy might be better than what they’ve got, but you guys are HIGHLY overrating him. Move his feet? Block shots? Which Erick Dampier have you guys been watching the last several years? The fact that someone described Damp has a “tough defender” is absurd. Please back that up with facts and actual proof. Until then he’s a marginal offensive player with poor hands, bad court vision, no drive, lead feet, and little basketball IQ. All that aside, Miami will be good no matter what ogre they have anchoring the middle.

If it’s true, then Miami is going are going to be a much better team. The addition of Dampier gives Miami a near seven-footer who can use his bulk to guard the top big men (Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Shaquille O’Neal etc.). He’s a tough defender who can block shots, move his feet on defense and score in the post if needed. Miami was already a very good team but Dampier makes them legit and they’re able to compete with the top big men on the top teams. Also, the Heat has to waive a player with a guaranteed contract. My guess would be Jamaal Magloire or some of their training camp invites.
