In one fell swoop you could be a rat to to cops and implicate your significant other. The onus is on law enforcement and the judicial system to provide an alternative to being a rat.

I hate to go to politics on a basketball site, but the issue that is being pointed out here is NOT that genuine DV victims are often hesitant to press charges or testify against their partners.
It is that the authorities immediately and unthinkingly pin any blame on a domestic dispute on the man, regardless of what actually happened. By the original account both were bearing signs of injury and yet only one individual was arrested, the one who happened to be 6’7″, 200+ pounds, covered in tattoos, and would likely have been able to effortlessly beat the other party into the ground without injury if he had really been inclined to.
