You are signed by a team that just won the NBA championship. You go through summer league and impressed your teammates and Laker execs with your talent and ability.
Now you have to have an incentive in your contract to keep your weight down.
This is not a good start especially with past problems And being kicked off one team. You are not saying things in the past are just that in the past, I have turned a new leaf.
A player should come with a work ethic of wanting to make the team and do what ever is necessary not to prove to the team they did not make a mistake in drafting him and he will earn the money being paid him.
What else do he have to do, he is not working at Wal-Mart and then have to find time to keep in shape and workout after work.
Is this Shaq Junior??? Hew will round into playing shape around November?

I can’t recall being this fired up about a Laker team…ever. With Blake solving the Fisher problem and Ratliff strengthening the already best Front Line in the League and 2 outstanding draft choices we can’t be anything less than unstoppable. I’m not accepting any excuses or letdowns. This Three-peat is a LOCK!

yes he will be a fine player for the lakers in the future and maybe this season. kobe and pau andrew sould not have to play heavy min with this team. maybe 70 wins

Caracter played at lousiville and was the number ranked kid in the country in his jr year ahead if then 2 Greg Oren who he dominated in aau camps. Caracter played an average 12 mins a game, was suspended 16 games at ville and still averaged nearly 10pts and 5 boards a game in the big east, he was ran off by pitino and then showed up at utep, where he averaged almost 16 and 10, the numbers were a combo of his time at ville plus utep, he made all conf USA, and led utep to NCAA tournament, if u watched his games he dominated with triple teams, if u question talent hasnever been the issue, who else was demanding doubles in summer league, a hand full of players, he dominated summe league play I’m sure that’s better than cusa for u, the guy was 1 ranked kid since seventh grade, and stopped working, stern changed he rule, and he goes from lottery to nearly being out of basketball, no one has ever questioned his talent, he’s got that, and on the lakers perhaps they can tap all the potential that’s always been there, this kid works or learns Kobe work ethics he’ll be alot more than just a good player, it’s matter of work for this kid and how much he puts in, essentially last year was his first full season of basketball in nearly 4 years.

This seems more like a “maintain” and show commitment requirement – he was about 275 in camp and they just want to make sure he doesn’t let up once he gets a contract. Smart move by the Lakers – both the pick and the contract incentive.
With all the undersized PF’s in the league Caracter could be a real find. And working with Pau, Bynum, Odom, Artest, and now Ratliff he couldn’t be coming to a better learning opportunity.

character is a good player at best, he played in C-usa thats like playing on the B-team and he only averaged around (10pts,5rebs,2blks,3asst, 1 steal, per game respectively)thats not good considering the confrence he was in. He should have easily dominated C-USA. I’m suprised he got drafted, I’m rooting for him though and I sure hope he shuts me up and does a good job. However I’ll continue to have my doubts until he proves me wrong.

D.C is a beast he showed what he had here at UTEP for the Miners in one season you can tell he should of been a top 5 pick if he didnt get into some problems at Louisville with coach Pitino im not a Laker fan but i will be cheering for them if D. C makes hes weight..

I hope this kid works out for us. He sounds like if he develope good work ethics he certainly can be a steal in the 2nd round. Leaving “U” with this message; if he developes the right “CHARACTER” he could be an impact player instantly.

I use to watch Derrick Caracter play in New Jersey boy can really play. With the lakers (Kobe Pau,Andrew,Fisher and Lamar) he should take his game to another level. Caracter will be the steal of the draft.

the lakers seem to be giving d.caracter and ultimatum. i think he will get to the weight because he seems determined and he’s a hard worker. i think he might play more than d.ebanks right now. d.caracter is going to give la some scoring at the pf position. so they will have 3 scoring pfs (gasol,odom and caracter).
