Report: Warriors may go with Rodney Carney as backup

Rodney Carney is talking to and nearing contract with the Golden State Warriors, according to a tweet from NBA.com’s Scott Howard Cooper.

Carney was in Philadelphia last season playing 12 minutes a game (in 68 games) and pitching in four puts or so a contest. Which doesn’t speak well of him as Philly needed depth on the wing but he couldn’t really break into the rotation.

He’s athletic, which is why he went No. 16 overall four years ago, so maybe getting some burn in Don Nelson’s offense (if it is Don Nelson’s offense and he is not let go before the season) will be good for him. Can’t really hurt. For a minimum deal, not a bad risk for the Warriors.

This will be a good pickup for Golden State. Rodney Carney is super athletic, can shoot and defend. I think this will be a good situation for him where he can run up and down. He will probably get more PT and GSW plays that up-tempo style where he thrives in. He just needs to work on his handle and consistency and he’ll be a very good player in this league. I wish you the best Rod.
