Charles Barkley is on LeBron's list now, calls the decision a "punk move"

Aug 12, 2010, 5:01 PM EDT

cbarkley.jpgIt’s August, but Charles Barkley is in mid-season form.

He went on ESPN Radio in Dallas Thursday (via FanHouse) and aligned himself with the many people who now see the Miami Heat as the league’s villains. And he’s having none of LeBron’s “taking mental notes of everyone taking shots at me” either.

“I heard about LeBron’s little tweet today that he’s remembering everybody who said anything bad about him. And he said ‘everybody. Well, I want him to make sure that he puts my name on that (list).

“I thought that his little one-hour special was a punk move. I thought them dancing around on the stage was a punk move, and I thought he should’ve stayed in Cleveland. Him joining Dwyane Wade’s team was very disappointing to me.”

Barkley did not recruit and team up with another superstar while playing in Philadelphia or Phoenix. He also does not have a championship ring.

Barkley speaks with the new basketball populist voice — there are a lot of people inside and outside the league now rooting against the Heat. There will be plenty more negativity like this for James to take note of.

And yet when the Heat are on the television ratings will go up, when they are in your town tickets will sell out. And they will win. A lot. And if they can get a ring in the next few years, anything Barkley says will go in one of LeBron’s ears and right out the other.

Anyone who thinks that LeBron could ever compare to Jordan are out of their trees! The whole “concert” they put on in Miami shows the immaturity that today’s atheletes portray. All of them will always try to live up to the stanadrd that Jordan laid down. Fact is, there will never be another Jordan or a team like the Bulls had in the 90′s. If LeBron was the man, then why didn’t Dwayne and Bosh come to Cleveland? I think it’s clear that he will always be remembered as a sellout…

Charles is not a punk. He calls it how he sees it and in general he’s kind to nearly everyone. You don’t hear reports of Barkley being rude or hateful. He appreciates the game and what the game gave him. He respects the History of the game. He doesn’t appreciate or respect those who don’t. He’s not trashed Lebron as a person or player, only Lebron’s actions. Charles can laugh at himself and rightfully so. There’s some stuff to laugh at. People like to hear what Barkley says because we respect his perspective. Lebron unfortunately considers himself so important that he’s keeping a tablet of those who talk negatively about him? That in and of itself shows how out of control his ego is. As if he will truly ever have an effect on someones life. It’s the classic case of believing his own press. Just seal the lips and play ball!

    Totally agree w/you…
I still see a bunch of morons giving comments w/o knowing the essence of competitiveness that MJ, Magic and Charles is emphasizing…
“Why didn’t KG, Allen and Pierce get hated when they switched teams” – News flash, all 3 of them were in a miserable team and LBJ isn’t. If you could call a team that got the best record in NBA twice in a row, a bad team, then you really are a stupid hypocrite…
The Cavs roster was a monster, the coach could be the reason, agreed, but they fired the man. The new coach could’ve won them a title, wait 2-3 more years and there you go, you’ll get a ring and make your dynasty. but what did he do? went to Miami w/the guys he should be beating instead of joining…

    Best Perspective.

Lots of trash being written here, damn! This is one man’s opinion, you don’t have to like it, but just make your peace with it.
That being said, the way Lebron handled leaving Cleveland was “turribel”, it really was, he should’ve let them know beforehand at least. It would’ve been the most considerate thing to do after 7 years of service. But I personally don’t hate on him for leaving Cleveland, c’mon man, its Cleveland! He could’ve won a ring at some point there I suppose, but he just didn’t want to waste his prime. NBA players have a very short shelf life, when they hit that big 3-0 the media will tell you they are on the decline, he’s only 25 but it might take the Heat a couple years to truly gel as a team.

  7. Lemonverbeena - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:28 AM

VERY well said Dustin! He’ll always be referred to as the guy who had to patsy up with his friends because he didn’t have the moxie to inspire a team to put it together….well, that might be a little hard when you disrespect yourself and the game by throwing a critical playoff game against Boston. That’s probably the most shameful thing… coward. Too bad mama Lebron didn’t teach you better. She might have been spending too much time with Delonte to care much, huh?

  8. Lemonverbeena - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:39 AM

Oh, and to add… I just saw the three stooges doing their ghetto dance in Miami uniforms… perfect example of “you can take the thug out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the thug. Money won’t buy you a thing, especially class and respect. You blew that big time LBJ and any so-called “legacy” you obtain will always be riddled with bullet holes. Nice lesson to teach your kids… sell out. Miami fans are thrilled because they’re blinded by the prospects, but we all see you for the the coward you are. When you have to buy it, it’s not worth a thing.

you and Ohio Lebron fan are half right. I think most fans of Cleveland were fans of Cleveland before James came around. The fans in Cleveland do not like people who are sneaky about what they are going to do. If James would have been up front with the team and the fans he would have not gotten the bad press. Cleveland is known for their extreme loyalty to their sports teams. Take the Browns for an example. Cleveland fans and the city fought hard to keep the name and get a new team when Art went to Baltimore because he could not wait for a new stadium. The bottom line about this whole mess is James did not even give Cleveland a chance to try to meet his wants. He went to play with his buddies and where he thinks he can win a championship is stead of working with Cleveland to get the players there. I just have to say thanks to him for making the team good for 7 years and for making them the worst team in the NBA again.

I don’t like LeBron and think his “Decision” special was bush league beyond that I don’t get why it bothers people he went to Miami he’s a FA he was within his rights. This legacy crap is just that crap. These are the same people that said Kobe would never win without Shaq etc. If LeBron gets rings out of it its a great decision(but the special is still epic fail) and this will be forgotten.
Barkley is also full of crap because if he had this chance he’d do so and in fact he did near the end of his career so its still the same no matter what.

  12. WOOT - Aug 13, 2010 at 8:28 AM

Lebron did what all of us would have done
Gone to a better team and WIN Championships
    Notice the “s” in Championships…
Everyone is just Mad a lebron cause they are not fans of the 4 teams in the league that actually maybe stand a chance
    Heat, Lakers, Magic, Celtics
I am a Cavs Fan my entire life, Born and raised. The only reason that i am mad at lebron is cause my team SUCKS now. HAHa..Lebron was the reason they were good…NO lebron no chance. Why not get made a Shaq or Big Z for leaving to? Oh thats right Lebron is the one that mattered. Lebron made a great decision

Some of you may not like Barkley or how he acts, or for that matter what he says. However, “Loser” is not how I choose to characterize him. He played 16 years in the NBA, was an all star 11 of those years, averaged 22pts, 12 rebounds and 5 assists per game for his career and holds a gold medal from the Olympics as an integral member of the first “Dream Team”. He may never have been on a NBA Championship team, but that does not make him a loser, so please, stop with the character assassinations. He was a great player among many great playes and just because he says what he thinks and you don’t happen to agree with him, does not make him a punk or a loser. Barkly can say what he wants. I disagree with his assessment of LeBron and I think Lebron, given his committment to Cleveland, simply ran out of patience. It remains to be seen if a team of superstars can win the title and until he does, he will be just like Barkely, a great player among great players not to win a championship. Does anybody really thing that LJ won’t be considered to be one of the best of all time, if he does not win the championship? I think not…..

    LeBron = Punk Ass Bitch
Can I get on LeBron’s list now?

    I have a pussy just like Lebron’s!!!

  16. Punk Move - Aug 13, 2010 at 9:45 AM

When did Charles have his own show to announce where he would be playing and then have the WWE dance show. These are the punk moves he was referring too. Read the entire article.

  17. Bob Blick - Aug 13, 2010 at 9:46 AM

Thank you!!! You got it exactly. At thre end of his career no one would have thought any different about james had he tried to hook up with a winner. At age 25 when he is supposedly to be a leader he passed on it to team up and play under Wade.
I agree. Why can’t some people understand this? Go Charles!!!

  18. Omnius - Aug 13, 2010 at 9:51 AM

Right On Charles Barkley! Leboring James, the King of Choke, is just a wimp who can’t win the big one without a lot of help from other superstars because LeBoring is a wimp on defense. The Heatstroke is the most hated team in the NBA and every team is going to look forward to beating them. Still the Heatstroke will be lucky if it can beat the Celtics in the Eastern Creampuff Conference to be lucky enough to be crushed by Kobe Bryant, the greatest player in the NBA, and the Repeat World Champion Lakers. LeBoring will be watching Kobe win his 3rd NBA Finals MVP and the Lakers their third straight championship on tv.

hey woot why dont you move to miami and kiss lebrons black ass . we dont nees a loser crybaby cavs fan

  20. darlene - Aug 13, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Excuse me, but we(Cleveland)had the best team in basketball, so he didn’t leave a bad team…he gave up on his team, teammates and fans to pursue his selfish goals. There isn’t anything wrong with that, but let’s keep it real. He’s a self centered player who thinks too much of himself. Watch out Wade…he’s not gonna like being the third wheel.

  21. Oh My - Aug 13, 2010 at 10:43 AM

The Cavs have had their ups and downs throughout their history and had some great teams when LeBron wasn’t here. We just ran into Jordan just like everyone else.
The Cavs didn’t put a team around him? Once again you blinded witnesses can’t quite grasp that the team one over 60 games two seasons in a row, a feet that has only been accomplished by a handful of teams in the history of the NBA.
Your man-child isn’t mature enough to grasp the fact that if he wanted to be the man he needed to prove it. Regular season MVP doesn’t mean squat and that trophy can collect dust with the high school championship trophies that are worth about as much.
Jordan didn’t quit at the end of the season like LeKing did. LePooped looked tired and like he didn’t want to be there. All the greats have one thing in common, the ability to pick things up when the team was down, how many times has LeBron done that in the post season? One game against Detroit when he could actually say he was the king, since then, nothing. He would rather pass the ball than man up and take control. Read the Sports Illustrated that came out after The Decision, LeCant is going to the be the teams Magic Johnson, he doesn’t want the responsibility to score.
He has been out of high school for seven years now and he still can’t be a man. The Chosen One, The King, We are all Witnesses, we made this kid a champion before he ever proved he could be one. Now he is LeWade and we will witness his being a follower instead of a leader.
One last thing, if you don’t think that LePrimaDonna had anything to do with the team that was on the court in Cleveland, you are wearing blinders and believe your stud can do no wrong. That is the reason he did not go to Chicago because Chicago basically told him they aren’t going to kiss his ass like Gilbert did in Cleveland.

who did Charles Barkley marry? Enough said. Same as all the idiots in this blog . Ice Cude got it right – get a grip, oreo.

  23. English Teacher - Aug 13, 2010 at 11:16 AM

You sound like your handicapped or 4 years old. Your English is atrocious. And I’m a CAVS fan. You know the whole team ? It’s funny, keep telling yourself that LeQuit gives one flying schit about you.

Sir Charles ‘No-Ring’ Barkely is paid big money to shoot his mouth off and attract attention.
Leave the dude alone – he’s just doing his job.

  25. The Truth - Aug 13, 2010 at 11:43 AM
