LeBron suddenly dropping as an MVP candidate is just ludicrous. All Miami talk before he signed was about the possibility of him signing, not how good they already were without him.

If Lebron averages a triple-double (which is in the realm of possibility) he will win a 3rd straight MVP and solidify his status amongst the greats. I'll put some money down on Lebron.
And the teammate argument, Shaq won a MVP playing with Kobe.

This is why the MVP awards in all the sports are garbage to me. If Durant is expected to win the MVP and yet doesn't have his team in the top of the conference(like the criteria supposedly says you have to) and probably won't either. But because he's a darling for now he'll get it.
Its all a politicized popularity contest especially if a player like Kobe will probably only get 1 to his name.

Hopefully there isn't anything detrimental to their progression along the way, an injury, bad trade that could ruin chemistry etc. I agree as of now its a little underserving until he can move his team deeper into the playoffs, but he has as good a shot as anyone not Kobe or Lebron.
Lebron may not get his on the offensive end as he used to, but with more energy playing defense, grabbing more boards, i think he'll be a much better player overall.

Though Durant may not yet be the most elite player in the league it is hard to argue that he is not the most important player in the league to his team. Kobe has a great veteran supporting cast, KG is part of the Big 3 (Big 4 if you wanna include Rondo now), and LeBron is now playing for the new favorites to win the championship. Durant may have a strong supporting cast, but they are still very young and he is truly the glue that holds the team together. If the Thunder are to have the success that they are expected to it will be because of Durant.

This year there will be plenty of Thunder games to watch. They are def on the rise. I agree with your argument but it is definately premature to declare him the "favorite". Until he wins something, he hasnt proven anything. The Thunder did a great job pushing the Lakers but they still lost and it was not like Durant was overly impressive in that series. Ron Ron did a pretty damn good job against the kid. That being said, I do believe Durant is the future and I think that the Thunder are future contenders, but until Kobe stops winning, it is hard to not delcare him the favorite to win the MVP.
Side note, I would take Kobe on the "downside" of his career over anyone in the NBA right now. Durant is for sure a very close second.

A little premature? Durant has game up the wazoo, and was the youngest ever scoring champ. And he's 21!! The Thunder has an extremely young roster that pushed the Lakers to the limit. That was definitely the toughest series the Lakers played until the Celtics, and the Thunder didn't even have anything close to a big man to stop the Lakers inside scoring. The core stayed intact and they gained experience playing the champs hard, so seeing them deep in the playoffs isn't a stretch of the imagination. I mean, they had the biggest turnaround out of any team in the league last year.
Kobe and KG are both on the downside of their careers. It's okay to start talking about the future of the NBA, and Durant is the future. And you should really follow your own advice. If you watched any games of the Thunder last year, you would see how much of an impact Durant has on the court.

The Kevin Durant for MVP talk is a little premature. He hasn't won a playoff series yet. In the past 30 years only 5 MVPs haven't made it to the Finals in the year they won the award. Dirk Nowitski, Steve Nash, and Lebron James. I think we need to stop concentrating on stats and actually watch games to see who has the most impact on the basketball court. It's ridiculous that the 3 guys that have lead their teams to past 2 NBA Championships Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant) aren't considered favorites.
