Your season opener: Miami at Boston. On Christmas Miami will be in L.A.

Aug 3, 2010, 9:26 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for wade_bosh_james_highfive.jpgHow about this for your Oct. 26 season opener: The old big three vs. the new big three. Miami at Boston.

That’s what’s happening according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. It’s a matchup of the new favorites against a team that has had several players say Miami should not automatically be the favorite.

On Christmas, the Heat will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers in the marque game of the day. That according to friend-of-the-blog Ira Winderman, who has seen the Heat’s early schedule and confirmed the Boston opener.

After Boston, tthe Heat will then play the Sixers on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 27. They will open the season at home against Orlando on Oct. 29.

That contradicts an earlier report that the Heat would be in Orlando to open the new Amway Center Oct. 28.

Not an easy way to start the season for Miami. And one that will test
their one perceived weakness on paper — the ability to defend big men
and the rim. Boston has a long front line with Jermaine O’Neal at the
heart (Kendrick Perkins will still be recovering from his knee injury, but O’Neal is the better offensive player), while Orlando has Dwight Howard in the paint.

We also know that joining the Lakers and Heat on Christmas Day will be the Bulls and the Knicks. Remember there were five Christmas Day games last season.

The opening week games and the Christmas games will be officially revealed on an NBATV show at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bring it on I am getting excited already! Lets go Lakers!

  2. Gary - Aug 3, 2010 at 10:29 AM

Lets go Lakers! Spank that a….s….s

  3. Jim - Aug 3, 2010 at 10:34 AM

Uhh it’s not 2002 anymore. Jermaine O’Neal does not strike fear into any team, let alone the Heat. You live with O’Neal scoring 15. It’s Rondo the Heat will have to control. I’m guessing D Wade checks him.

  4. LIL - Aug 3, 2010 at 10:39 AM

Go Miami !!! Show Boston they don’t have anything on them. The Heat is On

  5. better offensive player - Aug 3, 2010 at 10:40 AM

Calling Jermaine O’Neal the heart of the long Boston front line and the “better offensive player” than Perkins makes it sound like he’s good or a good offensive player or something. Which is something that you would think only if you didn’t watch him play at all last year and just looked at his stats and %’s. His game is gross unless you think a very slow 6’11” guy taking (and missing) 7-foot jumpers all game long while not rebounding at all is good offensive play. Wasn’t Perk leading the league in FG% for most of the season? JO is a major downgrade in every way and does not make for an intimidating front line in any sense. He was the heart of the Heat’s front line last year and nobody seemed to think he was good then. And they were right.

When does the season start? Cant wait. This steroid-free baseball era is boring me. jaja

  7. Omnius - Aug 3, 2010 at 12:15 PM

Who cares about the Heatstroke’s schedule? Go Boston whip the new phony little three, that from a rabid Laker’s fan! Actually the NBA made sure to give the Heatstroke an early advantage against the Celtics since Perkins won’t be ready for primetime for that opening game. The Heatstroke facing the Lakers is yet another boring rendition of the Kobe-James rivalry. I’m sure the Heatstroke will play the Christmas game like it’s the NBA Finals while the Repeat World Champion Lakers will just see it as another regular season game. The Cadavers beat the Lakers on Christmas last year but couldn’t even make the NBA Finals, probably will be the same for the Heatstroke who will be regular season wonders and then playoff blunders. The Repeat World Champion Lakers will Threepeat next June!

If Cleveland can beat the Lakers easily last yr twice then i see the heat just demolishing them on x-mas. and as for the Celtics it should be a good game but as we know the Celts have a hard time winning if u can contain Rhondo who Wade will guard. Mike Miller on Ray Allen and LBJ on Pierce. KG on CB4. which on paper seems like Miami has the advantage of course but no one knows till they tip off!!! Go Heat. Lakers run is over!!!

  9. jaided - Aug 3, 2010 at 12:53 PM

How is the laker run over? Their still champs and miami hasnt won a game with thier 3 lil whinning snatches. Lakers got better this offseason kyle.

So who takes the last shot with the Lakers up by 1 on Christmas Day 2010? LeBron has the ball…advances to the top of the key…11 seconds…looks to the wing and sees Wade…9 seconds…wants to shoot, but it’s still Wade’s team…7 seconds…”WTF” says LeBron to self…5 seconds…passes to Wade…Kobe pounces on the pass, intercepts…3 seconds…races to the bucket…dunk…horn..Lakers by 3. Merry Christmas Cleveland!

  11. mak - Aug 3, 2010 at 1:00 PM

the last time i check the lakers won back to back.phil jackson the greatest coach in basketball had won 11 titles and koby the best player of the game right now thru michael jordan.the lakers are the team to beat and i think they have the team to do it again
    go lakers

  12. Jimee Johnnson - Aug 3, 2010 at 1:02 PM

    I think you’re lying!

  13. Peezie - Aug 3, 2010 at 1:17 PM

I second these thoughts exactly!! Very well said 😉

  14. fltacks - Aug 3, 2010 at 1:47 PM

I’m soooo excited, I’m not going to bathe until Christmas….

  15. i see dead people - Aug 3, 2010 at 1:56 PM

i also see scared lakers fans
btw, adding matt barnes makes you only marginally better…but how quickly they forget wade putting up 50 on barnes as the main defender

  16. WatchinTheHeatWin - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:04 PM

Ha Ha…let me know when your done under the laker desk then wipe your mouth and brush your teeth before you speak…
The Heat have a lot to prove..I will agree with that completely. But to smack talk like that is ridiculous. I respect the smack talk from the Boston Fans because they have a legitimate top 3 players as do now the Heat. This will be a great game to watch. And last time I checked, Perkins wasn’t head lining any games nor do I see his face plastered all over Boston.
You say that the Lakers will play like its another game on Christmas Day…are you setting yourself up not to be disappointed when they lose? The Heat have nothing to prove to the Lakers until they meet in the Finals. The Celtics and Majic are conference rivals for the top spot in the East. In my opinion this is who they Heat need to focus on and prove that they are the team to beat.

  17. kyle b - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:13 PM

Jaided, how did they get better? by adding Matt Barnes and Theo Ratliff? lol those arent season changing trades. u added 2 defensive players but arent proven scorers. fyi their Dfense is not good enough to stop contain or shut down anyone on Miami. Lakers dont add any offensive threats bcus they want it to just be Kobe and Gasol and when they aint having a good game theyre gonna realize the best dfense isnt always a good offense. Lebron and wade can score on the lakers at will, kobe or artest cant stop them!

  18. hmmmm - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:16 PM

Wonder why the NBA made the Heat play both of these marquee games on the road.
I don’t like the Heat… but I’m for any team that stops Kobe from matching Jordan’s two three-peats.

  19. jaided - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:37 PM

r u serious? if anything they lacked last yr was defense and bench play? They wont have a problem scoring as u can see they got the hardware. right or wrong?come on now, no offense thats a joke. with no offense they dont win them bangin ass rings flashy ass rings. 2 of them in a row going for 3. Whos gonna defend the lakers big man like gasol and bynum and odom. chris bosh cant guard all. miami is wack. get real kyle. got to church.

  20. JD - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:52 PM

These will be interesting regular season meetings.

  21. PerRog16 - Aug 3, 2010 at 2:57 PM

It’s all good. Looking forward to this NBA season. Heat, Lakers, Celtics, Thunder, Bulls (Thibodeau), Orlando.

Go buy a box of kleenex now for your own Christmas present. The Heat is on! At starting PG – Lebron James; SG – DeWyane Wade; SF – Mike Miller; PF – Chris Bosh; and at C – Z. Sit back Lakers and watch them work. This will almost be like the Heat (Harlem Globetrotters of the NBA) vs the Lakers (what is their name- oh the Generals).

kleenex for a regular season game. dont need that. but z at center is a joke the man was backing up shaq, yeah shaq, thats horrible. miller is a bench player on any other good team. u know that if u know u know basketball, which u dont when u compare a nba team to the harlem globetrotters, that was the dumbest comment i ever read. anyone who knows basket should agree with me?

  25. David - Aug 3, 2010 at 4:29 PM

The Heat will miss the playoffs, they simply are not that good.
