And the season schedule leaks begin: Orlando to open new arena against Heat Oct. 28

Aug 2, 2010, 11:35 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for new-orlando-magic-logo.jpgAs it always does, the NBA has grand plans — they are going to unveil their opening games and the highlights (such as Christmas Day) on an NBATV special Tuesday night (7pm Eastern, if you want to set your DVR).

But as our own Matt Moore noted at the time, it’s going to be hard for the NBA to keep a lid on the games that always leak out from teams in advance of the announcement.

The first: The Sports Business Journal is reporting the Orlando Magic will open the new Amway Arena in a game against the Miami Heat on Thursday, Oct. 28 in a nationally televised game on TNT. That according to Don Muret of the Sports Business Journal (via the Sporting News).

It makes sense, buildings are usually opened against a rival and a big draw. Right now in Florida, there is no bigger rival, no more sure sell out than Miami. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade vs. Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson. The Amway Center also will host the All-Star Game in 2012.

Expect more leaks over the next day and a half leading up to the big show on NBATV.

oh mannnn… I’m a Heat fan, but I think Orlando will take that one. Dwight goes for 25/20/5blks.
I have a feeling the media’s take on the Heat is going to be similar to the way Fox News interprets everything Pres Obama does. Well..maybe not that bad.

Hmm I wonder which game was chosen for the 25th of december…not. I don’t need a leak to know this one…

It’s the Amway Center not Amway Arena.

too bad he doesn’t play well vs. the Heat
    11-25-09 12pts, 16rebs, 0blks
    12-17-09 17pts, 14rebs, 3blks in a blowout win for the Heat
    2-28-10 7pts, 5rebs, 3blks
    3-18-10 10pts, 11rebs, 4blks
11.5pts/game, 11.5rebs/game, 2.5blks/game…not very impressive numbers against the likes of Jermaine O’Neal & Joel Anthony. Also had 5 personal fouls in 3 of those games. How can he stay out of foul trouble with Wade/LBJ/Bosh constantly invading the paint? Who covers them? Vince Carter? Quentin Richardson? hahahaha

Why Ozzie Guillen’s comments were illogical:

youre a Heat Fan but u got them losing in the season opener to the Magic? lol your drunk. Thats all the Magic got is Dwight, Jameer is always hurt, VC is old, Rashard Lewis is on a steady downfall. Heat has LBJ, Miller, Wade, and Bosh, who gonna stop them? Dwight is a amazing defensive player but his offensive post skills are quite poor. he needs dunks and alley oops to make a offensive play. if u body him up and make him settle for a post shot he is gonna miss 3 out 5. what kinda Heat fan are you? oh i know, a sad excuse for one!!

Jermaine O’neal isn’t there anymore. Let’s see how Dwight works it out next season w/Big Z guarding him??? or Juwan Howard??? or Jamal Magloire???
