Knicks talking about Shaquille O'Neal deal, but it's not going to happen

Jul 15, 2010, 10:36 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for Knicks_logo.gifThe Knicks have talked with the Cleveland Cavaliers about a sign-and-trade that brings them Shaquille O’Neal.

Teams talk all the time. They talk like you and your buddies do about trades in your fantasy league. They ask about everything, some of it highly illogical.

They do very little of it. And according to the New York Post, this is not happening either.

A Knicks source said, “I don’t think it would work with us on all kinds of levels.”

Let’s take a quick walk back in time to the last time a general manager put Shaq on a Mike D’Antoni team. How did that work out? Shaq is a few years older and less effective. So the Knicks would want to make this move because….

Exactly. You can disregard this rumor.

The Knicks would want to make this move because they have a crop of young big men coming in that could benefit from the tutelage of one of the most dominating and effective centers of our generation. 1 season goes a long way in getting a young center ready to be a starter. I thought the answer to that was obvious.
Who knows, maybe he can even get Curry to put up some numbers so the Knicks can convince somebody to take him off out hands. Wouldn’t count on it though.

Shaq is not exactly known for his tutelage skills. He has always had a me – me attitude and all I can see him doing to Curry is driving him to late night Krispy Kreme runs.
We already have 1 out of shape washed up Center thanks, but no thanks. I’ll take Shaq if he comes with a “hot tub time machine”.

Why would it be a sign and trade? Isnt he a UFA? The only way that would make sense is if they got Cleveland to take Curry back in exchange for Shaq..
