It is a pretty good chip, but he(Cuban) was hoping to be able to use that as a piece in a sign and trade with a marquee player. Once they were out of the running for a top free agent, they had to use it for something. 13 Million off the books is a lot of money that a team like the Hornets or other teams would find very valuable. If you couple that with a Roddy Beabuois and/or a Caron Butler(who's contract will expire after this year too), a lot of teams would be interested. It wasn't inept front office work. Dallas turns contracts in to valuable pieces better than most. Jerry Stackhouse for Shawn Marion comes to mind. Ironically, Chandler's 12.6 million contract expires after this season, making him valuable in trade situations for this upcoming season. So they basically just swapped Dampier for Chandler, picked up trade exceptions, and got rid of Matt Carol's horrible contract in the process. Not a bad deal for Dallas at all.

Cuban has always talked big about how valuable of a trade commodity that Dampier's expiring contract was. If so, why is this all he could do with it? Seems like some inept Front Office work.

Interesting thing now is if, the Cats dump Dampier or keep him a few days/weeks with a plan to move him elsewhere in another deal.

Jordan you idiot. You could have traded Chandler for nothing but a useful player in Calderon yesterday. But instead of that you ship him off for a horrible contract in return in Carroll.
