Miami is closer to filling out its roster than you think — and you know these guys

Jul 12, 2010, 11:24 PM EDT

Thumbnail image for Heat_logo.gifMike Miller has now agreed to terms with the Miami Heat, according to our man Ira Winderman down in Miami.

That brings the Heat roster up to six signed — Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers, Udonis Haslem and now Miller. That’s the top six of a contender.

But how do they fill out the rest of the roster? It’s not that hard.

They have extended a qualifying offer to center Joel Anthony and they will bring him back, because they need centers. Look for Jamaal Magloire and maybe Zydrunas Ilgauskas to join him. Not the best lineup of centers, but they don’t need the best lineup of centers, they just need some big bodies to guard the paint a little.

Other guys you could see with the Heat: Carlos Arroyo, and forward James Jones. Juwan Howard wants to come and there is no reason not to give him a chance. Dexter Pittman is here in Vegas and while he may bounce between the D-League and the NBA, he could be on the roster. They should keep Da’Sean Butler of Wake Forest on the roster — healthy he might have gone in the first round, this is a guy you can be patient with.

There you go. That’s 14. There may be another point like Earl Watson or Jason Williams thrown in. But that’s your roster filled out, all pretty easily.

These boards are meants for basketball fans to be able to discuss basketball with each other. I’m not sure why you are getting so upset, or why you feel it is necessary to use profane language. Seriously, that type of language adds nothing to the discourse.
I consider myself a fan of the NBA. Whoever wins next season wins. Seriously, I wish the Heat the best of luck.
If the Heat are going to easily beat everyone next season as you claim, then what are you worried about? Why are you getting so upset if no one can beat the Heat in a 7 game series, as you claim? If you honestly feel that way, then it should not matter what any says. You should be relaxed and confident in your team.
Personally, as a fan of the NBA, I don’t share your confidence. I believe the current Heat roster as it stands has problems. Time will tell. All of this will eventually be settled on the court.

Last time I remember the celts OWNED the heat and the cavs from head to toe. please…. now that the heat have lebron you want to talk S*** hahaha. THE REASON WHY LEBRON AND BOSH JOINED THE HEAT IS BECAUSE OF THE LAKESHOW. AND YOU SAY YOU’LL LET YOUR TEAM DO THE TALKING? THE LAKERS BEEN WALKING BEFORE YALL EVEN LEARNED HOW TO TAAAALK!!!!!!!!!!
A SIDE NOTE TO LEBRON. ONCE A QUITTER ALWAYS A QUITTER! GOODLUCK WITH YOUR TEAM.

size does matter. last time i remember boozer got owned by the twin towers.

  6. Tax Lawyer - Jul 13, 2010 at 9:44 PM

Short on size? So were the Bulls under Jordan. Doesn’t mean that they can’t win, as long as they can merely defend in the post.

the heat need someone in the middle who plays like an enforcer. because dwight howard will gobble up Z and Mcgloire spit the both of them out. you know it and i know. the heat will not winn a championship w/o and enforcer who can consistently bang with howard. howard is a young beast in the middle. and coachs like jackson, popovich will exploit that weakness against. unless lebron plays like a MJ, where with shear will jordan would demoralize the 2 guards and 2 forwards, making the dominant big irrevelant. and lebron has not htat much competitve fire. wade maybe, but he is a tad too small to do that. stay tuned. i hope you are reading this comment Riles.

    Funny, Funny, Funny…
The HEAT have Lebron James and Dwyane Wade…2 of the best offensive and defensive players in the league bar none…Cheap size will be all they need…

First and foremost, Until the Lakers are beaten, they are the champions. The Heat have three of the top five players on their squad and they are young. As far as size, you only need bodies with size to play center. The center for the Heat doesnt have to score they only need them for rebounding, blocking shots, and defending. Joel Anthony is young and gritty, Big Z is not being added for defense he can pull them centers away from the basket with his ability to shoot. Udonis Haslem gets rebounds and is a great defender. Pitman is 300 pounds you just need him to be a presence in the paint. All they need now is another point guard and shooter. I like Eddie House, Tracy McGrady even coming off the bench he can still give you about fifteen points, some assists and boards. Another point guard too, carlos arroyo is good to start or play backup to chalmers they both can shoot. This Heat team made it to the playoffs with a not all that great squad this past season, so with what they have now the role players just have to compliment the Big 3. Look at the Cavaliers it was Lebron and the other guys, check the stats in the playoffs.

i’d just like to say lol at the last lecture reference “elephant in the room reading that for college right now” but i agree with you 100 percent as of right now the heat are a puzzle with missing pieces but maybe will be able to fill them within the next couple years but they are not good enough to try for a ring just yet

  14. ljb - Jul 23, 2010 at 4:23 AM

Well I think the author of this article said it already, “Not the best lineup of centers… they just need some big bodies to guard the paint a little”. I think thats true… big Z will take up some space and kick the ball to the superstars.

Look Orlando Magic are choke artiest when they win a championship then speak! Miami seems to have a lot of heaters this most be a defense mechanism. Whatever it is, is okay because we are blowing out the league just watch us… Boston 0.o REALLY? Please, these guys aren’t going to keep up with the heat. They are too SLOW!!!! The only team I see giving us a challenge is the Lakers. Answer this, what team in the league is going to successfully be able to defend and shut down Wade Bosh and Labron? If you try to double team them they have shooters on the team that will make you pay.. All I have to say is good luck -.O
