James reportedly "furious" over Gilbert's letter

Jul 9, 2010, 6:58 PM EST

After LeBron James announced he was going to sign with the Miami Heat on Thursday night, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert wrote a scathing open letter to Cavalier fans regarding James’ departure

According to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the letter did not go unnoticed by James:
This is obvious, but word is LeBron furious over Gilbert letter. This feud isn’t over, whether it expands now depends on if LJ responds.
The Cavs-Heat rivalry was already going to be something to watch next season. If there’s animosity on both sides, this could get ugly and explosive yet. LeBron James may be done playing for Cleveland, but something tells me that it will take James and Cleveland a long time to sort out their unfinished business.

What would anyone do, pay state income taxes for legions of sorry ass government employees to lay around doing nothing and collecting your money for retirement? OR, move to Florida with NO STATE INCOME TAXES?
    NO BRAINER!

Hey Lopes, those “chumps” gave Cleveland the best record in the leauge the last two years. LeBron never worked alone. We didn’t make it against Boston because LBJ had already decided to leave, and quitting against the celtics cleared his path to exit.

LJ is a joke, what a complete circus that was and I cant believe Wade even had a part in it..They still cant beat LA and Kobe, they wont even win the East..LJ is overated, quitter, whinner and he has just killed any chance of being in MJ or Kobe,s class, they did it by themselves with good role players around them, not 2 other dream team players to carry them. Its not about where he went, its how he did it,what a joke, prime time to announce it,comon people,he hasnt won anything in 7 years,he quit against Boston, thats a fact…He will never be the man like Jordan,Kobe,Bird…Its time to move on people…

Dan Gilbert personifies a loser; blame others for your own failings. And now he’s publically announced what kind of owner he is to all other potential free agents. Idiot.
Cleveland: what part of “free agency” eludes you? Be glad a player of that caliber actually played for a pedestrian club like the Cavs for as long as he did.

LeBron James is going to go on a rampage the likes of which we have not seen since Michael Jordan. This blog proves that there will always be more stupid people than smart. When the Heat come toyour towns, you are going to say wee-wee, wee-wee, wee-wee, because LeBron and Co. are going to kick the living crap out of your team, including the Smell-A Fakers.

A comment that could only be written by a true loser.

Yes, he had every right to leave, this is America. But he did it with absolutely no grace or tact. Classless in a word.

  10. Jimee Johnson - Jul 10, 2010 at 12:45 PM

Who lost LeBron: Cleveland! Practice your wee-wees,SORE LOSERS, because the wrath of LeBron is coming and will obliterate you like the firestorms Germany suffered at the end of World War II.

Wow. This is a very polarizing subject, no?
First, I am a Celtics fan and we did not have a dog in this fight, so I could care less where Leboy ended up. But a couple of points…..
First, Leboy made up his mind a long time ago. This shameless charade on ESPN just showed how greedy and self serving athletes have become. What a sham.
Second, I don’t feel bad for the Cleveland franchise. But I do feel bad for the Cleveland fans who were strung around by the nose thinking that there was a chance they would be able to retain their home town hero, when he had made that decision long ago. Had he made this announcement right after the playoffs, Cleveland would have had the chance to perhaps sign some of these free agants who are no longer available.
Third, Leboy is no longer the leader of any team. He is now a member of Dwayne Wade’s team. Never thought he was a leader and now the proof is there for all to see.
Lastly, I look forward to the matchup between the Celts and the Heat, where the Heat will have a 3-5 disadvantage. Did I mention a horrible bench? I promise you that these three supposed superstars will tire as the season goes on, and being tired lends itself to increased injuries. It will be fun to watch this team implode once the injuries and losing sets in.
Leboy does not DESERVE fans, and he is King of nothing. He’s just a rich, uneducated self serving prick of a man, and what goes around will certainly come around.

I’m going to laugh my a$$ off when LeGone tears a hamstring or something and is out for the season. It was clear he quit against Boston. The video speaks for itself.

I quit watching baseball years ago, I quit watching basketball years ago, I’m mixed on football, because there are a handful of class acts left. 90% of sports players don’t deserve this kind of money or attention.

Why don’t somebody ask Dan Gilbert and Cleveland OH. how much money they profited from the LJ legacy. Why don’t somebody ask Dan Gilbert how many simular business decisions he had to make throughout his career. Why don’t somebody ask Dan Gilbert how does he fill about the other players who have to look out for their family. Why don’t somebody ask Dan Gilbert why he didn’t try to get Wade and Bosh on His team. Furthermore, the Boston game, Mr Gilbert that’s your problem if you look at the tapes again you will see LaBrone James played by himself almost against the whole Boston team, open your eye’s sir. look at the team stat’s. Mr Gilbert you had him for seven years, why the hell could you have not channeled your anger and money toward a better team. Cleveland he broke your heart you say, may be your like for him was superficail from the start, that’s why you are vilifying his name and not congradulating him.
a business decisions dud. Mr. Gilbert, are you a duplicitist capitalist?
    CL.

Why is cleveland so upset? If he is such a quiter and self promoter, you should be glad he is gone. Why offer him a new contract, Gilbert, if you despise the guy so much? Look at the letter Suns owner Robert Sarver wrote to Amar’e after he signed with NY, and the class with which it was written. Who would want to play for Gilbert now. Do people in Miami vacation in Cleveland?

  16. The Truth - Jul 10, 2010 at 2:11 PM

All the negative comments regarding Lebron James is a failure to recognize that sports is a business, and Lebron owes no one anything. No different than Mike Brown, Danny Ferry or the hundred of players, who have been traded and released by the Cavaliers over the years. In fact, Gilbert should be thanking Lebron, as the worth of the Cavaliers was approximatley $200 million the year Lebron was drafted, but is worth approximately $400 million today. Unfortunately, the many individuals with the negative comments are losing sight on the fact that sports is a business, Michael Jordan realized it when the former Wizards’ owner fired him as the General Manager, after he rescued the team financially by coming out of retirement to play for the Wizards for two years. If sports is not a business, I guess Dan Gilbert will be rehiring Mike Brown, Danny Ferry, and the many players, who have been released under his ownership.

why is it that everyone is mad at Lebron teams get rid of players without notice all the time. If he felt like Lebron quit on him why would you have even wanted him to come back? plus he is 25yrs old people go off to college to get away from home and I bet anyone who was offered an job because thats what it is a job somewhere else they would jump at the chance if it would be better for their family. Plus young rich and south beach who wouldn’t if he wasn’t making them money no one would give a damn where he ended up they looking at him as a trader because he left but he never chose to be there in the first place thats why its called a draft! and lets face the facts we all can say what we would have done but we don’t know and never will most people that leave to go 2 college never rteturn home so whats the difference!

hey if Lebron had the teams and coach that Kobe has had over the years he probably would have stayed plus kobe is in LA what the hell is in cleveland is their even a comparission I rooted for the lakers but kobe didn’t even deserve the mvp award maybe fish or gasol lets face it the final game kobe looked about as bad as LJ and without gasol and fish and odom who are all allstars and 2 out of the 3 almost gauranteed hall of famers fish and gasol there would be no back to backs for kobe when he had a sub par team the lakers looked like a jv team but they went out and got the peices that kobe needed 1 of the top 5 power forwards in the league in gasol and a veteran point gaurd who also shined in the lakers run who fled utah to come back to LA for the best interest of his family in derek fisher and i bet you glad he did.
