According to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, Stan Van Gundy believes the Magic will likely match any offer given to free agent shooting guard J.J. Redick this offseason:
“I’m not worried about what J.J. might get from somebody,” Van Gundy said Wednesday between games of the AirTran Airways Pro Summer League at RDV Sportsplex. “That would simply leave us with a decision, but the ball rests in our court. We’ll just have to make the decision when the time comes. Our intention is — and I know that from talking to [General Manager] Otis [Smith] — our intention is to match.

Redick’s pro career got off to a bit of a rocky start, but his role on the Magic has increased over the last couple of years as he matured into a complete NBA player. Redick can still shoot (he made 111 threes last season), but he’s become a much better playmaker, can put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket, and has even become a pretty solid defensive player. Plenty of teams will want Redick’s shooting, savvy, and defense in free agency, but it looks like it’ll take a pretty big offer to pry him away from the Magic.
