Report: Frank may replace Thibodeau as Rivers' top assistant

Jul 8, 2010, 7:40 PM EDT

According to Chris Tomasson of NBA FanHouse, former New Jersey Nets head coach Lawrence Frank has a “good chance” of replacing Tom Thibodeau as Doc Rivers’ top assistant in Boston. Thibodeau turned Boston’s defense into one of the best in the league during his three years as an assistant, and was named the new head coach of the Chicago Bulls earlier this off-season.

Frank took the Nets to the conference semifinals three times as a head coach, and went 243-261 overall during time as a head coach. Last year, Frank was fired after losing the first 16 games of the season. Interestingly, Frank started his stint with the Nets by winning the first 13 games of his head coaching career.
Boston isn’t just a great opportunity for Frank as an assistant; one would have to assume that Frank will be on the short list of head coaching candidates after Doc Rivers retires following this season.
