12pts, 6.7rebs in 23min per game… those are not the stats of someone who is “washed up”. Those are the stats of a complimentary player in the nba, and his size provides additional advantages – don’t let your hate blind your logic.

The last two teams he played on were terrible choices. Both were very uptempo teams and that is not his game. Both GM’s were foolishly trying to shove a square peg in a round hole and that is not the case in San Antonio where they often prefer half court ball and run on breaks. It would also provide Duncan that freedom to roam more if played together.

You just signed Splitter to a deal, so there is your added youthful big man. No way Splitter is ready to start in this league but it looks like he has the skills to contribute, so signing Shaq and Splitter would give you the size needed to compete with the Lakers front court.

Shaq is an entertainer, he has rap albums and movies (technically speaking) so I’m surprised so many Spurs fans take everything he says so seriously and melodramitically. He’s a showman and a personality, don’t take it like an offense and look at it from a basketball stand point.

Wow…. impressive. Miami is a solid choice. I hope they contact Shaq soon…. And let’s face it, even if they have Bosh, Wade and James, they can’t win without a solid point guard and Center…and among the free-agent centers, Shaq is the best one available.

For as long as I have been a Spurs fan, I have listened to Shaq downgrade the Spurs, downgrade San Antonio and anything to do with either one! Now he wants to be a Spur and they are considering him? I would rather the Spurs never win another title if it means having that backstabbing man as one of them! The Spurs are a class act on their own and don’t need him as one of them. You know what? Maybe Mark Cuban will buy out the team and then we can have a duo of malicious Spurs haters cavorting around San Antonio.

If Saq sigs with the Spurs, I am supprised that he dosen’t sign back with the Heat! The traded Michal Besley to the Timberwolves for a 2nd round draft pick in next years draft wich leaves them with enough cap space to sign a guy who wants to years and who dosen’t want a Max contract like Saq. Do you argee?

Yeah its a tired statement, most people just refer to the whole “their old” retoric out of habit put in place by sports pundits a few years ago. Pretty sure last time i checked, the Spurs collectively are actually 1 year younger than the Lakers collectively.

jstew please shut up….If the Lakers had some sense they would kill to get Shaq back cause I guarantee at his age, he still would be more effective than injury prone Bynum. True, Shaq has lost some steps but for the last possible two years of his career, he can play a critical factor in a team winning the finals.
In case you all havent realized how important Shaq can be let me remind you. With Stoudamire in NY, Bosh MIA, Howard ORL, Perkins and Baby, the Eastern conference is full of big men. Plus the fact the Lakers still have the height edge, Shaq would be a welcome body to bang down low with the big men. I really would love if he joined Bosh down in MIA to create the Twin Towers 2….Think about it people

The Lakers have no desire to take back a self centered, self serving, me first player. With Shaq, it’s always about money, cameras and his ego. We won’t even talk about Shaq being a horrible defensive player and a player who can no longer score or get rebounds.

The problem for the Spurs is they’ve gotten really old. They needed young legs. They needed some athleticism. They needed some more energy off the bench than Dejuan Blair could give them. As much as I love Shaq, this isn’t the move for San Antonio. Tim Duncan is slowing and having greater difficulty guarding more athletic players. Shaq doesn’t alleviate that situation.

20 yrs later after what should have been his first nba team he finally wants to do the right thing…….ok!….6th man off the bench option ,expeirence ,still hungry for a title….why hasnt Lebron been in talks with the spurs,,Im sure the rest of the team would make salary room for him, its two titles in the bag, endorsements for everyone….the spurs have always been cheap they rode the admiral into the ground before they found help in the form of duncan..i hope they dont do the same to duncan.

I like your idea. I think that would be a very good fit with the Lakers. Send Phil in to the sunset and bring back good memories. But, there is still one flaw in your idea. Asking Shaq to put aside his ego. I don’t think he’ll ever swallow his pride and go back to Phil and Kobe.

Drew is bound to get hurt again – when has he been healthy? – and then you have a quality big body to plug in and allow Pau to stay at the 4 where he’s most effective.
