Want to know where LeBron James is going? Check his Website.

Register at the new LeBronJames.com and that is the sentence that greets you.

Those words plus other rumblings from his camp suggest that the first place the word of LeBron’s decision on where to play next year will be made through his site. DJ Steph Floss — the DJ at Cavaliers games and LeBron’s personal DJ — said on his blog that the announcement would come through the site (via Sports By Brooks).

Nobody knows for certain how the word will come down — there could be leaks from the team that gets the call with the good news — but the first words from LeBron almost certainly will be via his new site.

Which is a great publicity stunt, much like the recent series of meetings have been. Not that the one-on-one time that James got with the coaches of all the teams (except the Clippers, who don’t have one yet) was not informative for him. But the spectacle of the dog-and-pony shows and power points was about publicity and James feeling wooed and wanted. It was not about making a decision.

But that is done, we are on to the decision part. And that is going to be announced via his Web site, apparently.

LeBron has been behind the curve in the digital world, and this relaunched site is an attempt to change that. He had a deal with Microsoft to do his old site, which was not impressive and eventually the deal fizzled out.

James does not have a slick site with personal information and content from the man like Kobe’s KB24. He does not have a polished site with his own blog and is not a social media star like Kevin Durant or Chris Bosh. (Nobody would be surprised if Bosh announced his decision on twitter.) Online, James has been a little lower profile (although you could certainly drown in the James stuff on the Web produced by others).

This site looks to change that. Eventually. Right now the words “You’ll be the first to know” are the only thing that greets you (save a link to James’ Facebook page and a digitized picture of him with the words “Getting Closer” over it.) Expect that to change with the announcement of a team.

And is there any better way to drive traffic to a new site than to be the first with the LeBron James news?

LOL lebronze has a personal DJ? What overhyped fool cant work his own stereo?

  2. Ron - Jul 4, 2010 at 12:15 PM

    It is stupid.
I hope they screw it up and announce the wrong team. That would teach him a thing or two about technology and its shortcomings.

Hope he goes to Chicago or Brooklyn(Jay-Z might need 2 keep an eye on him). Tom & Avery can set up a good systems & if they dont sign DW in CHI won’t be problems with Rose.

Just laughing here, I guess the new plan…. is get your $200 million first (cause the kids got to eat, you know) and make sure it works out for the maximum endorsements….don’t worry about getting to actually be part of a champion. Blog back after he wins six rings, then you’ll have something to talk about.

Might as well milk everything he can. Personally I’m sick of Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Boozer, blah blah blah.
    Let’s get back to basketball.

I am so tired of Queen James. Will the media get over him already, until he grows up and matures he will be just another over payed under achiever, maybe he should go back to school and get educated,or is he too good for that. James is no King. Maybe he can buy a ring because that’s the only way he will get one.

  7. Leetch - Jul 4, 2010 at 3:03 PM

Wow some of you are jealous idiots. LBJ is one of the best in the game right now. Just because he doesn’t have a ring doesn’t make him any less of a player. Basketball is a team game and he’s been on a crappy team. The only reason they have even been in the playoffs is because of LBJ.
Is he the best in history? Not even close. He can’t even be mentioned in the top 25 at this point in his career. It’s early and again, he is easily top 2 in the NBA.
@Mike – what makes him an under achiever? Because he hasn’t won a ring? Maybe you should visit the basketball hall of fame and see how many there are in there WITHOUT a ring. He is one man and he can only do so much.
People seriously need to quit hyping him up like he’s a god. He is a great player but in order to win a ring, you have to have solid players around you and in Cleveland, he doesn’t.
