Farmar & Brown are necessary "energy off the bench," even though they are erractic at times. They offer a net benefit not easily obtainable, for they are experienced working in the Triangle Offense as well as the Lakers' defense. There may be no one available who can adequately guard Rondo or what Oklahoma provides. (Neither Blake nor Heinrich can.) Farmar & Brown are young and will continue to improve. They are both good enough shooters and both can drive. Recommendation: keep them both and continue to play them increased minutes as Fisher "rests" for the playoffs. Promising them increased minutes should make them willing to re-sign.
Jackson carried a lot of "dead weight" on the bench during the play-offs, - Mbenga and Powell, and needs to use them more to keep Gasol and Odom from wearing down. Mbenga is needed muscle. Gasol (forced to play too many minutes) cannot keep a healthy Perkins or Big Baby or Lopez out of the paint. Imagine the Lakers with an injured Gasol? They could not hope to win. The backcourt is not the Lakers' current problem, but will be if they lose either Farmar or Brown.

I've followed Jordan Farmar his whole career, and he has always surprised people . . . in the right way. He took his unheralded high school team to the championship game. He took a struggling UCLA squad to the NCAA championship game. He was among the last choices for the NBA All Star Rookie Challenge games, but came on strong in points and assists both years. People wondered why the Lakers took him in the first round, then he helped them win two national championships, even though he was only allowed small minutes. Without Farmar, the Lakers wouldn't have gotten past Houston in the 2009 playoffs, and wouldn't have gotten that first ring. He surprises people. He takes teams to championship games. A good guy to have on your side.

Agreed. I don't think he'd be much more of an upgrade than what Indy has on the roster. Price, I'd feel safer with on the court than Farmar, he just had the luxury of playing with talent all around him.
