Most. Ridiculous. Spin. Ever: Knicks prefer Joe Johnson to LeBron James

Jun 29, 2010, 3:08 PM EDT

Johnson.jpgNeed a good laugh in the middle of the day? We’re here to help. Read on.

The Knicks are targeting Joe Johnson as their No. 1 free agent choice and believe he’s a better fit for the team than LeBron James, according to an NBA source with knowledge of the team’s plans.

“Yes, we think he’s a better player,” the source said of Johnson. “He makes other people better. With LeBron’s people running the locker room that hurts the organization.”

This is from SNY.tv. Not The Onion, but an actual news source.

Funny stuff. Funny sad for Knicks fans because their management clearly already is in spin mode as they know they will not be getting LeBron. So they are trying to pump up the fan base about option number two. Who is a huge drop off from option No. 1. And it’s not like they are likely to get Johnson, either.

Joe Johnson is going to get overpaid with a max or near max deal from someone. But it’s not the first two years of that deal that would be an issue (he’s a good player), it would be the last two of a five-year deal some team will regret.

Every made-up rumors will have their day.
This is a pure fabrication-out of thin air !
Don’t believe: The Bulls have it locked up.
The Heat will treat three superstars.
    That Cleveland has an edge.
    Or any other scenario.
The team with the bucks and smarts will hook Lebron.
And nobody can predict the outcome-yet !

We just came out of a meeting and we have been told by Lebron James thru phone conversations that he will not sign with the knicks. Kevin A Smith will report this momnetarily. Our prime objective now is to focus on Joe, Amare and trying to resign Tracy for the upcoming year.

  7. nope2z - Jun 29, 2010 at 3:45 PM

    No. Walsh > Riely

  8. sevenman - Jun 29, 2010 at 3:52 PM

I just came out of a meeting -and was personally advised By Lebron James that he will sign with the Knicks.
Mrs. Smith will announce this at her pie factory-via Skype in a few seconds.

  9. Wade County - Jun 29, 2010 at 3:56 PM

What the Knicks just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in the Knicks rambling, incoherent response were they even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone reading this article is now dumber for having read it. I award you no wins, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  10. Gator - Jun 29, 2010 at 4:18 PM

I’m a lifelong Knick fan, but since the ownership change, I will never watch the Knicks again. The Dolans ruin this team. What once was the greatest team in New York, is now a laughing stock, and it won’t get any better until the Dolan’s sell their share. LeBron is not coming to NY, sorry guys but true! The Knicks need to just implode and disappear off the face of the earth, just to save some dignity of what once was a great team.

  11. sevenman - Jun 29, 2010 at 4:22 PM

The Knicks management is not responsible for the frustrated states of mind perpetrated by this last announcement.
All jumping off hay-lofts and using chainsaws without proper supervision is not advised.
Breaking news about the terms of LeBron’s contract with the Knicks will be forthcoming.
So put away your bibles and bourbon- and stay tuned !

the Knicks for the last two years are like a roller coaster some things were done to go under the cap(Crawford,Randolph), while some things intrigued us(McGrady)all in all though the knicks never really had the best part of a roller coaster ride the final drop, the anxious feeling in your stomach. let it be known that this year that drop will come

@Wade County- great Billy Madison quote! Love it…

Peeps….. Aren’t they those nasty marshmallow chickens you get at Halloween, or Easter, or some chit like that?

  16. Randall - Jun 29, 2010 at 5:35 PM

1-It’s good to see the Knicks realize they have no chance.
2-Even Joe Johnson knows how stupid that comment is.

  17. Shane - Jun 29, 2010 at 6:58 PM

    Nice Billy Madison reference!

  18. Anthony - Jun 29, 2010 at 7:09 PM

Seriously why do media people even waste their time printing this crap? Does anyone actually believe this conversation ever took place? No way did a Knick official ever utter those words, only a complete idiot would think Lebrons sideskicks are such a negative that they wouldn’t want Lebron on the team. The only person I can see dumb enough to say this would be Isiah Thomas.

  19. kompleatkaos - Jun 29, 2010 at 7:31 PM

My sources have confirmed that the Knicks will move to Akron in a “last-ditch” effort at signing Lebron. (snark)

I am a life long die hard knick fan heart broken for all the trades isiah made as pres. but he drafted very well later in the draft.we hire a excellent pres. who only skill was to clear cap space bravo”. But here we are again unable to move up last draft to pick curry.Missing out on lopez these boys are not just good ball players but key position players which would not disrupt the free agents of 2010 pt guard in place center in place. So here we go lets say that lebron chooses chicago, bosh miami. Then her we go a max contract to amare,16.5 rudy gay 12 mil. here is where the high risk is sign chandler for the 5 mil if he accepts it or haywood ok knick fans we now are out of funds. 2011 curry comes off the books possibly 11.5 mil package him and chandler 3 0r 4 mil together for okafor collison accept his bad contract to get a terrific pt guard . NYK TEAM
Sorry guys at best this our team…. not bad but no championship

Kebron isn’t going to the Knicks, so they might as well go to option #2. I don’t thing LeBron could handle being in NY for the rest of his career, the media would eat him alive when he has a bad game. Lebron is a GREAT player, but he hasn’t won ANYTHING yet! Might as well get someone cheaper, who also hasn’t won anything yet!

  24. E.O. - Jun 30, 2010 at 12:23 AM

I think what’s sadder is that you take for truth what is a 2nd hand account of what Knick management is saying. With all the rumors going around, if you were a smarter “journalist” you would think to yourself – “why is there a new rumor about where Lebron is going every 30 minutes?”
Obviously there’s propaganda journalism going on. Be smarter than that Helin.

You CAN’T mnake this kind of stuff up – it just can’t be done.
So I thank you all – each and every one – for the amusement you have provided an old fart.
