Heat take another step toward Superteam, waive James Jones

Jun 29, 2010, 3:31 PM EDT

Thumbnail image for Heat_logo.gifThe dream is alive in Miami. Well, unless you’re James Jones.

In their attempt to strip the team down to the studs and rebuild, the Miami Heat bought out the final two years of Jones’ deal, Ira Winderman reports. They had to pay him $1.86 million, but they are now out of his $4.65 million. Because of the odd way things amortize things against the cap, this adds about $3 million to what the Heat can spend.

Let me be more specific — that is three million more for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to divide up.

Miami is working hard to make that superteam dream a reality, although they need to move Marcus Beasley to really make that happen. And they are trying hard. But if they do they can almost offer three max deals (someone would need to take a little pay cut).

Jones is now and unrestricted free agent. One who will have to wait and see how the market shakes out before he knows if and where he has a job next season.

This would be a great move for casual fans of the NBA. Why not take 4 – 5 years in their primes and go for titles together. I hope it happens. The only question has to be who else is going to be on their squad?
Sure would make them the team in Miami…

there is a good chance that LBJ can go to Miami… for those who think theres no way in HELL. LBJ is turning off the spotlight to win a title, thats what he truly cares about… not be THE MAN, LBJ is not stupid… he doesnt want to wait 2 or 4 years to win a title, he wants to win it NOW and the only way he can do that is teaming up with the best out there… why not hook up with team USA’s best in the most lovely city where there are no state taxes… in which he will pocket more per check… Will it happen? dont know, nobody does… but i wouldnt say there is no way in HELL.

i love how everyone knows Lebron wants to be the “man”. I understand he wants to be a star but to say you KNOW he wants to be the MAN is a personal feeling. Lebron can play for who he wants to play for so i think we all should STFU until Thursday 12:01am
