LeBron James not going on recruiting tour

Jun 25, 2010, 7:29 PM EDT

nba_james1_250.jpgRemember talks of LeBron James going on a nationwide tour to be wined and dined by the teams and cities that wanted him?

Yea, not so much.

All meetings with teams will be at a neutral site, James’ right hand man Maverick Carter told ESPN’s Chris Broussard.

“LeBron is not going on a tour,” Carter said. “He never planned to go on a tour and has not been a part of any team’s plans for a recruiting trip.”

There are one of two truths here: Either there never was a recruiting tour planned; or there was, but as the early waves of fan backlash to how much he was enjoying being wooed reached Team LeBron, they cancelled the plan to protect his image.

You can decide for yourself which of those was real, but when teams were told there would be no recruiting tour caught them off guard.

New York had made very public its plans for celebrities to stop in, for a fine meal by a top chef, for all the glitz and glamour of New York to be laid out before LeBron. Neutral site is not good for the Knicks, who have to now just pitch the merits of their roster. Which has few merits.

Other teams will woo Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, but LeBron will have to be the first domino to fall before free agency really gets rolling.

lebron is an egomaniac punk. who cares. he is never going to win anything until he grows up.

I still think that people underestimate how much influence that Coach D’Antoni and playing in his offense will have on LeBron’s decision. If he goes to Chicago, he might as well have stayed in Cleveland since the offense will still be god awful.

The King: LeBron James. But he will not win a championship without a supporting cast like he could have in Los Angeles or Boston, or even…Miami (if D.Wade stays). LeBron James has not realized his full potential, yet. He will still need a great team behind him when he does in order to win a championship.

Don’t be delusional. Rose + LBJ will be better than anything the Knicks can put together. Throw in Noah grabbing board and possibly another max player (Bosh, Johnson, Stoudemire) and you’re looking at one of the best offenses in the league. One of the main reasons he probably won’t go to the Knicks is their lack of defense, which is because of their run and gun offense.

Lebron James and/or his camp need to get their act together. I for one am not looking forward to after 1 July 2010 because it is like a three ring circus already. This is the NBA, not the game show Let’s Make a Deal, get rid of the hype and make a decision. Already this Lebron mess has overshadowed the NBA Championship and the NBA Draft. Mean while the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics continue to get it, they are about winning championships, not about the Lebron James traveling circus mess, think about it, I think he should be trying to figure out a way to get on one of these two teams, because at the end of the day they are both about “Winning Championships”.

You’re a horribly racist, and sadly ill-informed person. I feel sorry for you.

Cleveland tried and tried to win it all with LeBron and failed, what makes anyone think a different franchise can do so? Let’s not forget it still takes a team to win it all and some luck with healthy players come playoff time and then some.

they had to cancel the tour because they couldn’t find facilities big enough to hold this guy’s ego. now they only have to find one. should make it somewhat easier, but i still question whether such a facility has been built yet. like it or not folks, he’s going to Chicago.

Stay in Cleveland. Like it or not MJ took Chicago to the next level not by jumping ship but working with what he had. FOR THE PRIDE OF CLEVELAND AND LAKE ERIE, end this madness and stay put. Anything else would be window shopping.Show the talking heads that YOU can win in Cleveland.

Rumor has it that Lebron has already purchased a multimillion dollar condo in Chicago. The decision has been made. Eat your hearts out NY, and others!

Scott it’s 2010, it’s ok/cool to say African-American, using the N word is totally “not” cool, plus it tells me you must be in the 55-70 age group and if you aren’t, theres a problem upstairs. Scott lets be “cool”

Who cares what the King of Choke LeBoring James does? This overhyped media miscreation is just another overpaid ballhog like Allen Crybaby Iverson. Whatever team LeBoring goes to I pity it because they’re going to be paying through the nose for a proven loser who’s more interested in padding his stats than in playing winning team ball. Cleveland will once again become the Cadavers once LeBoring takes his wallet elsewheres, but it will be better off as it can then try to build a real team around a real team player who won’t break it’s bank and will be more interested in the team getting some other good stars than in padding his own stats. After the free agency shakes out watch the Lakers win yet another ThreePeat next year!

  15. Jeff Czajka - Jun 29, 2010 at 12:48 AM

Bulls will get both Lebron James and Chris Bosh. Bringin back the NBA title to Chi-town.

  16. Brad Still - Jun 29, 2010 at 1:00 AM

    @ stefano
How can you say he cant work with D-Rose? The only reason D-Rose took so many shots last year was because he was the best player on the court and had to make plays by himselfa and he was still 5th in assists. Throw Lebron on the court with or without another max contract player, there will not be one team who can guard that offense. The knicks are a joke and always will be, so good luck signing Lebron and another max contract, ha.
