The only problem with your assumption (about how the Blazers handle their general managers) is that you don't really know what happened or why they let Pritchard go. Neither do I, but a clue surfaced recently in an article I read on Rudy Fernandez.
According to this article, Rudy was promised several things that never materialized. That was one reason Rudy made the decision to leave money on the table and head to the NBA. Pritch, according to the article, was the main culprit. The report was one sided - and who knows how accurate it was - but if true, could this have been why Portland let Pritch go? Was he making empty promises in order to get his way.
