Ray Allen is not a go to guy anymore and he doesn't get open in playoff basketball anymore. But to question whether he's a great shooter is absolutely absurd. Not only is he still an above average shooter. He may be have one of the purest strokes in NBA history!
He's getting older but makes a great 3rd or 4th option on any team.

He would be a great shooter on the Lakers.
The defenses would double-team Kobe or Pau or Bynum. This would leave Ray Allen completely free to shoot threes.
Just look at the Lakers' shooters. They just stand around at the 3 point line waiting for a pass.
Ray Allen would last longer on the Lakers because he just has to park at the 3 point line. He doesn't have to run around screens, which tires him out, as on the Celtics. He can just stand all day in his position.
If a defender stays with Ray, then Kobe goes wild since they won't be able to double team him.
Thus a dead-eye shooter like Ray Allen would be invaluable on the Lakers Triangle Offense. Dead-eye shooters make the Triangle DEADLY like in Chicago. It is because the Lakers' sharpshooters are inconsistent, Kobe has had severe difficulty with double-teams and the lane can be clogged with defenders. Given a dead-eye shooter, the Lakers RULE.

Tom your comment about Ray's defense on Kobe shows your complete ignorance of basketball. Playing defense affects offense.
And nobody said he is a "great shooter", those are your words. Nice strawman argument.
Also, stats show he's a good shooter. Most 3 pointers made in the playoffs. And a higher % than Kobe. What next, Kobe isn't a great scorer?

Still can't believe people say this guy is a great shooter??? He's a streak shooter and had very poor shooting games during the playoffs. He has trouble getting open in the playoffs when the defenses tighten. Ray is way overrated and is not a scorer by any means. I will give him credit for playing excellent defense on Koby however. He's way past his prime and I would not be disappointed at all if he didn't not resign with Boston. He is no longer that great and will slip even further next year.

Ironicly Ray would be a great fit as a triangle PG and bench-unit scorer for the Lakers... not sure if the Lakers would take a tainted Leprechaun, or if Kobe would accept being in the same locker room as Ray. But he seems like a great fit...
