Hawks aren't going anywhere any time soon

Jun 20, 2010, 12:00 PM EDT

That headline’s a bit of a backhanded compliment considering where the team’s roster finds itself, but this is a business subject.

The Atlanta Spirit, the ownership group for the Hawks, informed the AP that they had no intention of selling or moving the team, despite recent rumors to the contrary. The Hawks have been locked in a bitter ownership dispute between majority and minority owners that has impacted everything from coaching to free agency decisions, and has caused a bit of a mess.
Still, it’s good to hear that the Hawks aren’t going anywhere. They’re a marquee franchise in the league and the loss of them from Atlanta would be another in a line of depressing thefts from home cities. The Hawks have a tremendous history with the league, despite their sometimes lukewarm home base and the team’s modern inability to secure a championship. It’s best for the fans and the league that they stick around.
