Cavaliers assistant Malone to join New Orleans staff

Jun 19, 2010, 7:30 PM EST

According to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cavaliers assistant coach Mike Malone will join the staff of new Hornets Coach Monty Williams as an assistant. Malone was Mike Brown’s “offensive coordinator” this season, a position held during the 2008-09 season by current Pistons head coach John Kuester. With Brown fired and the Cavaliers clearly not looking to name someone within the organization as their next head coach, Malone’s desire to leave the organization makes sense.

Malone is the son of former Cavaliers head coach Brendan Malone. Prior to working for the Cavaliers, Malone was an assistant with the Knicks.
