NBA finals, Lakers Celtics Game 7: Kendrick Perkins is reportedly ruled out

Jun 16, 2010, 10:52 AM EST

Screen shot 2010-06-16 at 9.53.46 AM.pngKendrick Perkins’ status for the series finale is a game-changer, and could quite literally decide the championship. This isn’t to say that the Lakers can’t beat the Celtics while Perkins is in the lineup or that the Celtics can’t win without him, but should Perk be forced to watch from the sidelines, the scale tips L.A.’s way. There would still be 48 minutes between the Lakers and the big prize, but they would hold a definite lineup advantage on their home court to boot.

With that in mind, consider the gravity of ESPN’s report from an unnamed source with the Celtics that Perk will be a no-go on Thursday:

The Boston Celtics might go to Game 7 without center Kendrick Perkins. He landed awkwardly trying to haul in an offensive rebound midway through the first quarter of Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night and suffered a right knee sprain. Perkins was hopeful, saying: “I’m going to try to give it a go [on Thursday].” But a team source told ESPN.com’s Chris Sheridan: “He’s done.”

It’s one report from an anonymous source, but the implications of a missing Perkins are substantial enough to forward it along. Should the source be correct, Rasheed Wallace and Glen Davis could not possibly be more important, as their combined ability to fill minutes at center and defend the middle will be crucial. Considering the way Wallace has picked up fouls in this series, relying on him to play major minutes (at STAPLES, mind you) could end poorly.

Now the Celtic fans are the ones crying about an injured player ruining their chances, now they know how we Laker fans felt about Bynum being so hobbled with his knee. Don’t bank on any Willis Reed moments Boston fans, this Laker team isn’t like the one who lost in 1970 because I saw that happen live. I loved how Andrew Bynum crushed Perkins without even trying, he’s just so strong. I also loved how Ron Artest played Chin Music on Rondo with his awesome forearm shiver, and yes Ron Ron did it deliberately. Yup the Lakers beat up the Celtics and it’s time for Ancient Gang Green to realize their run is over. Kobe and the Lakers will not get complacent tomorrow with everything on the line in one game. Going to be great celebrating the Laker victory tomorrow night as we hear the Fat Lady sing the Blues for Ancient Gang Green.

To anyone who thinks the Lakers are not the best team ever, you are doo doo heads. Silly, lame, poo poo poopers. LMFAO! I have schooled you all!

Wow. Most insightful comment from La La land all day!

  3. THE REAL LAKERS FAN. - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:05 PM

The fact is that the Lakers have the best players and is considered the best team in the NBA. The Lakers have the best player in the world which is Kobe Bryant. He is also the best closer in the game. Their is too much talent in this ball club and it’s too much for Boston to handle.

the CELTICS WILL win Game-7. You heard it here. These old guys know this is their last chance to win big. Kobe & Co. will be around for a long time after Garnett, R.Allen & Pierce hang up their sneakers. They have what the Lakers (Kobe excluded) are missing: the Heart of a Warrior.

Read between the lines smart guy…anyone who takes this sh*t that seriously obviously feels like they’re part of the team. But sorry, you’re not. So Lakerfan, have another beer and yell louder! And btw, I’m not a Bostonian, nor have I ever been on this board before. Just having fun!

  7. dococ1 - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:24 PM

All of y’all Celtics fans, can kiss our collective L.A. Lakers a$$e$. Yup.

  8. West Coast - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:26 PM

…well they didn’t show any heart in game 6, and there’s no home cooking in LA. Go Lakers!

  9. Get Real... - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:29 PM

Oh that’s good Chrmngblly. So you’re homophobic. Nice. Classy, classy. No, you’re gay! Whhaaaa…whaaaa! Shut up dork. Now go have another beer, make a copy, and continue your life of quiet desperation…and sweet dreams of being one of kobe’s minions. But you can’t even do that, because it takes a bit more than just cheering and having a big, fat, homophobic mouth!

Seriously….most of these comments must be from men. It amazes me that there is so much dick wagging going on from people who are not even playing in the game! LA whines all the time – especially Kobe – his pouting when they were losing shows up much of a baby he truly is! And I don’t understand the comments on the age of the Celtics players when Kobe and Derek are over 30…Ron is 30 and they’re not considered old?

  11. b sievers - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:32 PM

Do not expect the Celtics to roll over and play dead!
They have been the best road team in the playoffs for a reason, one which you Laker fans just might find out tomorrow night.
Both of these teams are quite solid, and when it comes down to just 1 game for all the marbles there are way too many variables.
Hell who knows what could happen, any of these guys could sprain an ankle or worse, god forbid Kobe gets knocked out of the game early. You’d really hear some whining Laker fans then!

  12. Get Real... - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:33 PM

Hey dococ1, I think you are confused. You’re not a Laker.

  13. dococ1 - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:39 PM

Da Celtics is already dead & done for y’all. Have a safe trip back to beantown now. And don’t forget da wheelchairs & crutches y’all.

  14. Chris - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:48 PM

    Israel,
Not sure if you are still reading these posts or not in regard to you picking 20 out of the past 22 winners in the NBA finals, but I think a more realistic streak is that the 2 you got wrong both went to 7 game series (LA- Detroit in 88) and (Houston-NY in 94)…hmmm I am detecting a pattern here. This year the Lakers and Boston are in a 7 game series and you picked the Celtics to win since you are Nostradamus…..I have no clue who will win this game 7 but picked the Lakers based on the fact that this was going to be a tight series and probably go 7 games which would then mean the home team probably wins that 7th game because thats where the percentages are…….
    Getting my point?

  15. dococ1 - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:49 PM

Yo Get Real. I am a Laker. I’m one of the Lakers team doctors. And I love messing with all you Boston Celtics fans.

  16. Amazed - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:50 PM

Agree – Celtics are not done. They will come back strong tomorrow night with or without Perkins. Remember they are the only team to have beat LA at home in the finals, and nothing says they can’t do it again in Game 7.

  17. Get Real... - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:50 PM

“Da Celtics is already dead & done for y’all.”
Wow dococ1. Maybe you spend more time learning grammar and less time watching multimillion dollar athletes achieve something. Maybe you could achieve an average grasp over the English language.

  18. Get Real... - Jun 16, 2010 at 4:53 PM

If you’re a doctor, I’m a brain surgeon. I guess you skipped English class, huh?

Yo Get Real, I’m Just translating proper English, so dat all of y’all Celtics fans can understand wat we be talkin’ about, y’all. Madder now?

  21. Get Real... - Jun 16, 2010 at 5:04 PM

  23. Laker Gurl - Jun 16, 2010 at 5:26 PM

Dococ1 – Can you please shut up? You are making all of us Laker fans look like total ghetto trash. Please go back to your gang and start banging there. Thank you. And, please take the suggestion that someone gave you and learn to speak English, not ghetto ebonics bullcrap. Geez, who let you out of jail?

  24. Charmngblly - Jun 16, 2010 at 5:34 PM

    Get Real,
You are proof that Gay-boys are very defensive–something the Celtics used to be proud of. They used to like all the “bodying up” and getting “touches”. Now, not so much. And since we are BSing here, what do you have against homophobes, anyway? Practically all the perverts I know are rooting for Boston. Real, I really dislike name-calling, so if you would categorize yourself for us it would take a load off me?

  25. Danny - Jun 16, 2010 at 5:42 PM

I second that motion, we’ll have to wait till gametime although I think he is done since he left in the fisrt quarter and didn’t return
