NBA finals, Lakers Celtics Game 6: Lamar Odom has the flu

Jun 15, 2010, 8:49 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for odom_bench.jpgThis time, there may actually be a reason for Lamar Odom’s quiet night.

Odom started feeling sick with flu-like symptoms on Saturday and did not feel better during his 8-point performance in Game 5 Sunday. He hoped to be felling better for Game 6, he told Lisa Dillman at the Los Angeles Times.

“I haven’t been sick all season … now I’m sick in the Finals,” said Odom after the Lakers’ 92-86 loss to the Celtics here in Game 5. “Had to put my hard hat on just to get out of bed. It was tough.

“I’m not feeling good, but I’m not making any excuses. I’ve just got to be ready to play.”

Odom has played better than any of the other Lakers bench players. Which is about like saying you’re the best of the Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitchers — it doesn’t mean you’ve been any good.

If the Lakers are going to force a Game 7, they will need a healthy Lamar Odom. Both his body and his game.

Odom is pulling the same disappearing act he pulled in the 2008 finals. He’s completely disappeared 4 out of the 5 finals games. He’s done this countless times in the playoffs and I’m not exagerrating. How many times have we heard this? The guy’s the most inconsistent, passive player of his talent in the league…so called leader of the bench. No wonder our bench is getting killed by the Celtics bench. At least grab more rebounds odom! Show some heart! It’s only 2 more games at most…you’ve came this far. Calling in sick already?,…damn odom man up and stop with the candy sugar high b4 games. Hopefully the Lakers management will see how lazy this guy is and trade him if he continues this bs. Only problem is, other gms in the league won’t exactly be climbing over each other to get this guy. Typical entitled, overpaid underachieving athlete aka Lucky

Odom strategically planting his excuse b4 game 6…not a good sign laker fans. That’s not a show of confidence there. This guy seriously lacks heart. He makes Glen Big Baby Davis look like a superstar. His play or lack thereof actually brings energy to the celtics bench instead of ours. They’re just drooling over the chance to dominate him again in the paint. Hopefully Bynum can come through for us despite his knee.

  3. Where Is Lucky? - Jun 15, 2010 at 7:15 PM

Hey Lucky… Lucky, Lucky. Here Lucky, Lucky. Where are you Lucky? Where are you in this whole NBA Finals? Where are you in this past 3 years? LMAO.

  4. SCfool - Jun 15, 2010 at 7:24 PM

“Where has Odom been the past 3 years?” In the NBA Finals. What a dumb question.

Celtic fans are always talking about the 60’s. Wasnt there a quota system in place back then!!! Go lakers

  6. lakerbabe - Jun 15, 2010 at 7:29 PM

Gosh, I do agree with most of these guys here that Lamar is not up to the caliber of the Lakers. The guy’s got more heart for candies than he does for basketball. He should’ve sold candies instead because basketball is clearly not his right career choice. Go Lakers, in spite of Lamar.

  7. Odom's A Joke - Jun 15, 2010 at 8:09 PM

Odom is already setting himself up to the media with an excuse of a flu so he cannot be blamed if the Lakers lose Game 6 and the championship again to the Celtics. The guy is clever but truly a total loser. Probably the biggest loser in the whole of NBA.

  8. Odom Hater - Jun 15, 2010 at 11:23 PM

Odom is a pussy and he knows it. That God damn SOB cannot be consistent. WTF? Stop emptying your nutsacks before each game, Odom. WTF are you thinking? This is the NBA Finals, God damn it.

  9. Josephine - Jun 16, 2010 at 12:04 AM

OK Odom, your flu is no longer an excuse now that you guys have won Game 6. Now, I challenge you to STEP UP and win Game 7. You better do it and don’t disappoint me!

  10. 2010 Champs Lakers - Jun 16, 2010 at 1:54 AM

Like Josephine, I hope you will finally step up and take your 15 minutes of fame, Odom. You owe it to all Laker fans and you really owe it to the Laker organization. You have to realize that you are paid a lot of money and you have not been consistent at all.
