Izzo to hold press conference, likely to stay at MSU

Jun 15, 2010, 5:49 PM EST

UPDATE, 6:24 PM: It looks like the latest word is that a Michigan State players meeting is set to take place at 6:45

UPDATE, 5:59 PM: It looks like there may not be a press conference after all, as MSU officials are not confirming anything. There may, however, be a statement coming. We’ll keep you updated as best we can.

ORIGINAL POST, 5:49 PM:

According to multiple sources, Tom Izzo will hold a press conference on Tuesday evening to announce his decision regarding whether he will stay with Michigan State or leave to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavaliers are still conducting their coaching search, making it extremely likely that Izzo is planning to announce he will stay at Michigan State. Izzo has been mulling over Cleveland’s offer for some time, but it looks like he was ultimately unwilling to accept the position without knowing whether or not LeBron James will return to the team next season. James declined the opportunity to get involved with the recruiting of Izzo, and now Izzo is staying at MSU.
This is not good news for the Cavalier organization. Not only will they not be getting their prime coaching target, but this is clear evidence that LeBron is undecided at best regarding where he plans to play next season. Former Hornets coach Byron Scott will likely be the front-runner as the Cavs continue their coaching search.

He has put MSU in the same class of great college programs such as Duke, NC, Kansas and how much nicer a work environment working with college kids instead oft spoiled and whining pros. Way to go Mr I………

Go Green, firmestGo White. Can’t say we could fault TI if he chose to move on, but this is the best news of the year. He simply does not have anything to prove – we already know he is a great coach and a great Spartan. Love ‘ya, Tom.
