Okay, if you want to make the argument that the Celtics won simply because of a corrupted officiating crew, fine. I can't prove or disprove the underhand dealings of the NBA. However, despite poor officiating, Bryant still should not win the award granted a Celtics victory in game seven.
There will always be arguments on the officiating of NBA games, partly because basketball is such a difficult sport to judge given its fluidity and quick pace. So try to keep the referees out of this.

I think most Kobe haters spend to much time talking about everything but basketball when it boils down. If you look at his shooting most of the time he is accused of taking a lot of shots is when he gets a pass and the time clock is down under 5 seconds. Very rarely do you see him just come down and take a shot with more then 15 seconds. Then we contiunue to make excuses for guys that are being paid millions of dollars to make baskets, to drive to the hole and to make foul shots. When it's all said and done their is not a team in the NBA that had the opportunity to get Kobe would not want him on their team. You can not get mad after 14 years of watching this guy play because he wants to win. We try to compare guys the wrong way the league is much different from when Bill Russell played as when Jerry West play as when Magic Johnson and Bird played as when Michael Jordan played. If the lose the series it's Kobe fault, if they win the series these same people will be bragging how great a player he is. Put feelings a side most don't know him other than what they hear or read, he is a great player and will be in the HALL OF FAME like it or not.

Y'all are smokin'. It's Rondo all the way. Dude is like the Tasmanian Devil. He's EVERYWHERE. He runs circles around the Lakers just like he did around the Magic, just like he did around the Cavaliers. Regardless of who wins the Finals, it's Rondo not Kobe. Kobe is selfish and attitudinal and doesn't motivate his team at all. It could also be the entire team because as most people on here say - they are a true team - unselfish, not worried about their statistics, just focused on the win. But ultimately, it can't be anybody but Rondo. Dude is a beast and only 24.

Doc Rivers (he got on the court long enought to call a crucial time out in game 2)... Okay, so he's not a player. But he has been the pivotal difference maker of the series (and I never thought I would say that).

I still don't understand the complaining about the officiating by the Lakers' fans. The Lakers have shot a ton more free throws than the Celtics and Kobe has gotten his fair share of dubious calls after he misses (3 pointer at end of game 5).
If the Celtics win and Kobe Bryant gets the MVP it will be a travesty. How valuable are you really if you cannot propel your team to the win? At this point, it'll depend on who steps up for the Celtics to win the deciding game. If it's Pierce, he wins. If its Rondo, he wins. If Allen goes insane in LA again, he may win it. Garnett has been a rock but his stats just don't jump out at you. If the Lakers win, Kobe will have deservedly won the MVP.

Yes I know way old school here, but if the Celtics win??? why not just the whole celtics defense as the MVP... it's not offense that is doing this for the celtics
Please please please the announcers, how many more times do have to hear Magic introduced as the winner of every award in the world?

They'll just give it to Rondo to give the MVP to a player on the losing team is just incredibly insulting and Kobe would probably not accept it if it came to that.

For the Lakers Kobe is obviously the best player in the playoffs, for the Celtics it's the refs who have protected Boston by ignoring numerous obvious fouls every game. Kobe will prove why he's the best player in the NBA tonight as the Lakers even the series at home. Boston is only 1-7 in closeout games on the road over the past few years, they couldn't even closeout LA in 2008 on the road. Lakers in 7 games!

Taking the award away from the celtics?
Kobe has been the most consistent player that has excelled game after game in the series.
I think the writer of this article had it right when he said it should go to the refs for their influence in the series.
Think about it. how many crunch time calls have the missed and put in favor of the celtics?
Let's go back to that first replay situation with KG and Gasol where KG is clearly palming the ball as it goes out of bounds. Decision? Celtics ball.
How about game 2 where Rondo goes in for the steal on Kobe (who doesn't touch him at all) and then falls out of bounds? Decision - Foul on Kobe. You can't tell me that he wouldn't have had 10 more points if he only sat 6 min instead of 14 because of foul trouble.
Let's not forget the latest debacle here at the end of game 5 where Ray Allen throws up a clear airball that should have resulted in a 24 second violation. Watch the replay. The tell tale sign here is that the net doesn't even vibrate at all. It sure would have if the ball had touched the rim. Decision by refs? Celtics ball. If the Lakers had rightfully been awarded possesion, are you Celtics fans really sure that you walk out with the "win" in game 5?
Now it hasn't all been pro-Celtics refereeing. The Lakers have gotten some weak calls that go their way as well. And even though I am the biggest Lakers fan in the world, Derek Fisher gets more BS flop calls than anyone not named Paul Pierce.
The stripes have ruined this series on both sides. In the Superbowl, it has to be a big penalty for the flag to go out. In the Stanley cup finals, there had better be blood. In the NBA finals? Refs think they are gods.
This was supposed to be an epic clash of titans, but it has never really gotten going because some ref wants to blow a whistle every time the air conditioning blows a players jersey - FOR BOTH TEAMS!
Fix officiating in the NBA and let these men play the game. Also, bring in coach's challenges and replay. The BS airball call by Allen really changed this series... yet again!

Celtics fan. It should be Kobe. The guy single-handedly brought his otherwise lack-luster team to the finals. Who else does he have? Gasol? Bynum? Those guys are mediocre at best. Look at the Lakers bench. There is NO ONE there. I hate to say it, but Kobe deserves all the credit for making his "team" what it is.
On the other hand, the Celtics are a true team. Every player does his part to make the team better as a whole. The bench is outstanding, too. If the C's win, the MVP has to be Rhondo. The guy just brings a spark at the right time. He rebounds over seven-footers. He makes pass after pass after pass. He hustles up and down the court and makes the big plays when the Celtics need them most. So... Kobe on paper. Rhondo in reality. Celtics in 6.

If the Celtics win, it should be the whole bench.
If, heaven forbid, the Lakers win, guess you could give it to Kobe. He is indeed a great shooter, but not a great team player...
