NBA finals, Lakers Celtics: Paul Pierce talks trash to a fan. Alert the media.

Jun 7, 2010, 9:33 PM EDT

Pierce_celebrates.jpgLet’s get the facts out of the way first:

With 1:12 left in Game 2 and the Celtics up by seven, Paul Pierce came over to help Kevin Garnett up off the ground and said:

We are not going back to L.A.

Here is the video, via Sports By Brooks, and Pierce is clearly saying it.

Some Lakers fans are taking offense at this. Some Celtics fans are taking this as a sign of the confidence of their team to take the whole thing. Both fan bases are delusional (which we knew going into this series).

So, in the heat of the moment, Paul Pierce talked trash. His team was about to even the NBA finals on the road, and he was pumped up and talking smack to a fan.

So what? Athletes stay stuff in the heat of an intense game all the time, things that are far worse. To fans, to refs, to each other. Pick up games at the Y have worse trash talk, let alone what gets said on the interior of an NFL line.

But, some microphone picked this up and it is a story. Look, the 2-3-2 NBA finals format punishes the road team something fierce. Winning three games in a row — even at home — against a quality opponent is a real long shot. The Lakers are going to win one of the games in Boston, at least. What, you think a Rondo triple-double and a Ray Allen three-point record are going to happen nightly?

Then the Celtics will have to win one more on the road. Probably a Game 7. And that’s what we all want to see anyway. Whatever Paul Pierce says during a game.

Laker fan here, and honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with that trashtalk Paul Pierce is into as reported. The guys have the confidence and the swagger, and they earned it as they can back it up with the successes that they had this season. It’s up to the Lakers to see to it that Pierce turns to Piss as we get Sweet Sixteen. For the moment, let’s suck up the loss and faith that our boys can snatch those wins in Boston.

So I didn’t listen to the clip, but maybe he was talking to Garnett?? If not, so what..this wouldn’t be the first time a team has talked trash….Plleease!

Gee, could Pierce be foreshadowing three losses with the Lakeshow taking it on the road. They won the Western Conference rounds that way.

Exactly. It ain’t news. Garnett prolly makes even worse comments that would make your proverbial sailor look like pee wee herman… that being said, it’s no big deal. He is entitled to it. But the thing about trash-talking especially when recorded or documented, it goes back at you a hundred fold and makes you look like a doofus in the end. Can’t wait to officially call Pierce a doofus on that note.

    Celts fan here…
No one really cares. If this is what it takes to fire up the Lakers, they’re doomed. And they are clearly not. Even a nut case like me thinks three in a row back home here in Beantown is close to a pipe dream. The Lakers do not look ready to fold in any sense.
Lets have some more champion-caliber basketball.

Maybe Paul Pierce trash talk will wake up L. Odom and the Lakers bench. They are truly not ready or capable of playing basketball on this high level. Kobe and Gasol can not continue to carry the team every night.
