To all you Cleveland and Ohio haters, what are you basing your opinions on? How many times have you been to Cleveland or any place in Ohio? Before you make your stupid comment of “who would want to” state where you are from that is so great. Don’t be an idiot and mention the river burning which happened 40 years ago. State a current fact that justifies all the bashing in this thread. Try finding something outside of sports.
If you morons are just making the statement based on sports you are part of the bigger problem in this country. Putting a bunch of overpaid uneducated athletes above all else. The economy of sports does help a city but how may cities are in this country and how many actually have pro sports? All the other cities are functioning fine without them. Lets not forget the large pieces of real estate that aren’t used for half the year that these cities don’t have to contend with.
If you want sports, yes we didn’t win the big one in the last 50 years but at least we have had something to root for. In the 80′s it was the Browns, the Indians picked up the ball in the 90′s and now we have had the run with the Cavs. We may not win the big one here but like someone said earlier, there is no better place to come if you want to save your life. The Cleveland Clinic is the number one heart hospital and has been for over a decade. Royalty fly in from all over the world to be treated there. I consider the doctors and nurses at the Clinic to be the real winners in this city.
University Circle with all it’s museums, the Cleveland Metro Park system and Zoo, Rock Hall, Science Center, The Cleveland Orchestra, not to mention all the places to golf, fish, ski etc… amusement parks like Cedar Point and Kings Island…..I could go on but you should get the point. Also, there is a night life in Cleveland and the other major metropolitan areas and it is in plain site and affordable. We’re not Chicago or New York, we have always been the go between, a hub with a mixture of cultures from both major cities. This is why you can pretty much have any kind of food you can imagine in the Cleveland area. Just need someone to point you in the right direction.
Politically we are an embarrassment which stems from blue collar thinking in a white collar society from an industry point of view. County corruption has been the main focus but we have some pretty big losers up and down the entire political ranks but name a state that doesn’t have this problem.
If you can’t find a good time in Ohio it’s because you didn’t want it to happen. If you are trying to point out how pathetic Cleveland is in hopes of landing LeBron you need to seriously get your priorities straight. 100,000 teachers getting laid off in this country and the concern is over one man playing basketball.
My last point is this, why would you want LeBron? He is from the Cleveland/Akron area and Ohio is a crappy state.

Cleveland is a nice town man, I am from DC area been here 20 years not a Cleveland native. I dont understand why the dimwits from NY bash Cleveland. I would much rather live in Cleveland than the cesspool of the world aka NY city.
With that being said though, Lebron James is the most overrated basketball player to ever play in the NBA.
Also, if the first thing you look at is a citys sports success instead of the things that actually matter like living conditions, safety etc you are the biggest dimwit alive. Like it makes a difference if Cavaliers with 1 title or 10 titles how does that affect YOUR LIFE or your families??

The city of cleveland might not be attractive to you, but it is attractive for anybody that wants to play with Lebron. Ask Shaq, Jameson, Mo Williams, and any other FA’s that have signed in the past off seasons why they signed…also, they will have plenty of cap space because they won’t be resigning shaq, delonte west, and some others. On top of that, the cavaliers can offer Lebron more than other teams $ wise, due to the Larry Bird rule. Everyone else should do their homework before they start spouting off incorrect facts. That being said, Lebron either resigns with Cleveland, or goes to Chicago. All other teams are out of play in my opinion.

Newsflash:
LeBron wants to win “multiple titles.”
Cleveland has zero cap space and zero trade assets. Nearly every player on the Cavs roster was acquired by trade (for players with expiring contracts), because the city of Cleveland simply isn’t an attractive destination for prospective free agents.
And let’s not forget that Danny Ferry has been unable to identify talent in the draft.

LeBron is a stud, not just because of his basketball skills, but because of his loyalty to his home turf and fans. That is a rare commodity these days in a very mercenary business. If he stays in Cleveland, he is a Hall of Famer for integrity as much as the other statistics.

Here here Joyce, very well said! I worked at the Cleveland Clinic for 15 years so you are very correct in that the CC is one of the finest hospitals, drawing dignitaries from all over the world. The orchestra and art museums are beautiful and well renowned. People who bash Cleveland without knowing the goodness of it and the people are just ignorant. I hope LeBron stays too, but if he doesn’t, we will certainly go on.

Let’s see……Cleveland has one of the finest hospitals in the world-The Cleveland Clinic…….one of the best orchestras-The Cleveland Orchestra………one of the best art museum…….The Cleveland Art Museum. These are what puts Cleveland on the world map. There are millions of people who could care less if any team wins a championship but there are quite a few people who are alive today because of the work at the Cleveland Clinic. I would love to see LeBron stay but even if he doesn’t, Cleveland will continue to be know the world over for what it has to offer in medicine, art and music.

You say you live in Seattle but you sound like an Ohio homer with your idiotic statments about the Indians owning the 90′s and Browns having long tradition and Ohio State. Reality check is that Indians choked the 97 or so World Series and usually underachieved and then you have the Browns that are the worst team in the NFL now and have not been relevent since 1964 with Jim Brown. OSU is good but they are more known for getting worked in BCS games by SEC teams rather than the one championship they won over Miami which was because of some horrible officiating. Other than that I guess the state of Ohio can always be proud of Youngstown State in 1AA football.

I live way up here in Seattle, and have no Cleveland roots at all, but I disagree with you Kevin on stating Cleveland will NEVER be on the map in ANY sport.
Cleveland Indians owned in the 90′s and the World Series for a while went through Cleveland. Cleveland Browns have a long drawn history in the NFL. Ohio State is most definitely a flag or pushpin on ‘the map’ when it comes to college football EVERY year. Them alone puts Cleveland on the map.
So don’t hate on all those sports teams just cuz you may think one is garbage.

Chicago gives him a ready team option. He will get paid anywhere he goes. The first couple years he will make a little less. Cleveland and New York never get the right pieces. Miami gives him another team ready option, but I do not see him and Wade playing together.
