Has Doug Collins ever coached anyone of note? Does the name Michael Jordan ring a bell?? In addition, Doug was a player with the sixers when they had DrJ, Mc Ginnis, Steve Mix, World Free, Darryl Dawkins, Joe Bryant (Kobe’s father), Caldwell Jones and the list goes on.. Back in those days, the sixers bench was as good as their starters and there was not enough balls to go around for their scorers. So, he has the background and the credentials. The main thing will be how will he be received by the players and if the organization will give him free reign. At this point Brand is a bust. However, with his contract there are not going to be many, if any teams interested in taking him.
Realizing this is a rebuilding year, Doug will have to put on the court a hardworking team that competes all game. If he does that, the fans will support him. If he doesn’t, it will be a very LONG year.

The best thing about this coaching selection is that we won’t have to listen to Doug Collins as color announcer for games. I’m sure he is a fine coach, but he (and Hubie) ruin watching games with their non-stop talking and describing what we are already seeing as though he were doing a play-by-play for the radio. I wish him well as a coach.

If they won’t play for Collins, then who? Like Bryan says, he’s got the credentials to demand 100%, and should have enough player respect to get it.

l think it is a very wise move, Jordan never did fit at all, he forced his Princeton offense without the right tools.. Collins has done everything in basketball, played, trained, analyzed and coached previously…. We in Philly want another winner… l just hope Turner is there, because of everyone talking him up, the Wizards may change their minds on Wall and take Turner…. so keep your fingers crossed.

I think the addition of Turner and a change of direction with Collins will revitalize the Sixers and make them a playoff team. They’re still a franchise player away from being a serious contender though.
