Kobe's wife wears "Do I look illegal" shirt, only one talking immigration

May 18, 2010, 9:03 AM EDT

vanessa_Bryant.jpgPhil Jackson isn’t going to talk about it. Kobe Bryant won’t go near it. The Lakers aren’t going to talk about it or wear their Los Lakers jerseys. While there was a small protest outside, inside Staples Center the Arizona Immigration law discussion was dead.

Except for Kobe Bryant’s wife.

Vanessa Bryant is part Hispanic and she wore a shirt that said, “Do I look illegal?” to the game.

The reference was clear.

She — and often the couple’s daughters — are regulars at Lakers games. They tend to stay out of the limelight, as much as that is possible for a high-profile family. But she gets noticed, and used that to make a statement at Game 1 against Arizona.

You’re talkin nonsense and if oyu’re truly Latino, that means you’re in a deep crisis of personality because you surely dunno where you’re from. Sad Sad!!

Being proud to be latina does not mean sticking up for someone who broke the law.

  5. SAH - Jun 9, 2010 at 5:43 PM

Being proud to be latina does not mean sticking up for someone who broke the law. So should I be a proud Dutchman and stick up for Van Der Sloot? The law needs to followed no matter what degree the crime.

  6. SAH - Jun 9, 2010 at 5:53 PM

Yes we should stop suspicious people for a crime. An officer has no proof someone is drunk driving he pulls them over on suspicion. If someone is roaming my neighborhood and looks suspicious I sure hope a cop checks him out before he molests my kid or sells him drugs.

TO THE IGNORANT PERSON WHO SAID THERE ARE NO ILLEGAL WHITE PEOPLE. DO YOUR RESEARCH IF YOU CAN READ. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL IRISH PEOPLE ON THE EAST COAST OF AMERICA. THEY ARE NOT HUNTED DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE. ALSO, YOU NEED TO RESEARCH THE AMOUNT OF ASIAN PEOPLE WHO ARE ILLEGAL IN AMERICA. ALL OF YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND READ HISTORY. THIS IS A COUNTRY OF IMMIGRANTS. AMERICA HAS A GRAND HABIT OF BRINGING PEOPLE IN TO DO THE DIRTY WORK THEN WANTING THEM TO DISAPEER. WELL. IT DOESNT HAPPEN THAT WAY. THESE PEOPLE ARE HERE TO STAY. AND AS A BLACK AMERICAN I SAY MORE POWER TO THEM. THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF AMERICA WAS THEIR COUNTRY. WHAT COMES AROUND, GOES AROUND. GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND OF IMMIGRANTS!!!

Them why is it only the Mexican community that is getting upset about the Az law and not the Asians or Irish or Canadians. You dont hear them saying how they are going to be racially profiled?

  10. Proud_Texan - Jun 10, 2010 at 2:49 PM

are you trying to be funny, or are you serious???
You do realize that if someone is born in Peru/Salvador/Guatemala/Hondruas etc….
    they’re not Mexican right???
and if you are serious, if someone is in here from Canada/Europe/Russia and do not have the proper documentation, just because of the color of their skin they should get a pass and stay in this country illegally???
The internet is a powerful tool to gain Knowledge, I suggest you use it for that purpose…

I am hispanic. mexicans should be able to come freely.

  12. Donworryboutit - Jun 12, 2010 at 10:12 AM

It’s racial profiling, plain and simple. One, not all Mexicans fit the convenient physical stereotype that pervades this countries media. Latinos, Chicanos, Hispanics and Creolos are what is known as mextizo cultures, or mixed cultures. I mean, Mexico had a president named Vicente Fox… Fox people, not exactly a “Hispanic” last name. However you want to dress this crap sandwich up and call it a monte cristo, it is what it is; an overtly racist and illegal law that allows for the violation of promised rights.

Kobe Bryants rape case – why is that even relevant? He is not a convicted rapist.
Illegal Immigration Law – It is true that there are so many white illegal immigrants walking around without a care and it is such a shame because there are so many legal hispanic americans who has to walk around in arizonia fearing that they will be carded for proof of status. The law is vague and unconstitutional really ..
The best food for an ignorant person such as frank and some of the others on this site is to keep feeding their hate with comments however if we stop they will eventually realize that no one is really listening to them and they will hopefully go away.

How do you train police officers to know what an illegal immigrant looks like? Last I checked they look exactly like every other American. Since that’s the case the police will have the right to pull every car over on the street on suspicion. Is that the America you really want?

  15. James - Jun 12, 2010 at 5:54 PM

United States need to do something about this issues. Of course the illegal immigrants want to have a better life just any other person would. But they can’t understand that we have laws and they made the choice to break the law for whatever reason. I think the best decision is to take this energy to Mexico and demand better condition for their people. In addtion, if this was in Mexico 25 millions would be in jail for 2 to 3 years for breaking this law.

I am sure your people came here through the right path and not one of the Marielitos! Remember that these people were treated unfairly! You probably do not know that, so reach into your history!
There should be a level of empathy as at some point in time o0ur ancestors came to this land in search of better! Now, we are “putting up wire fences” because we do not want them to come and get a piece of the pie!
Before you go into your hate filled tirade, my ancestors are pre-Columbian migrants! You probably have no clue what that means, but if you do, good for you!

Hey Donte-Are you “gangbanging” in Dodger stadium???

  22. Anonymous - Jun 15, 2010 at 6:16 AM

Funny, I don’t see many Canadien or European people involved in killing people on the border. Maybe that’s why people aren’t “freaking out” on them as much.

  23. LlisaLisa - Jun 15, 2010 at 7:04 PM

Yes, it is racial profiling! Why are we kidding ourselves! EVERYONE does it. The problem unfortunately, and it’s in all cultures, is the refusal to acclimate and OBEY the laws of the United States. The hispanic culture specifically have dominated our country by being here illegally which begets more crime and it continues to bore in their offsprings!

  24. jazzman - Jun 15, 2010 at 8:05 PM

Ok so Mo what is this you are another person(s) that does not know Mexican culture. So Mexico and South America is Spaniard, Axtecan, Black, Portegues, White southern,German, do you realize how many , variations of skin color you just offended. You should get a clue and find a higher level of Cultural competancy. This world is about people and nothing else. The U.S. and its economy will only support so much or so many individuals at this present time. Maybe the mexicans so excited about coming to America should stop and realize this, before the U.S. Economy looks like theirs(Mexico). I say Mexicans go to Mexico kick out all the crooked politicians that have ruled over you for Centuries and Give some rebirth to your own Country. That would mean starting over, From Scratch, but you know what it won’t happen due to the fact that the culture has no history of defending what is rightfully theirs.Spain fighting for control of Mexico soes count. further more it will take the United states to go into Mexico and literally kick ass to stop the oppression from the Government and the F********* drug cartels.
