Kobe's wife wears "Do I look illegal" shirt, only one talking immigration

May 18, 2010, 9:03 AM EDT

vanessa_Bryant.jpgPhil Jackson isn’t going to talk about it. Kobe Bryant won’t go near it. The Lakers aren’t going to talk about it or wear their Los Lakers jerseys. While there was a small protest outside, inside Staples Center the Arizona Immigration law discussion was dead.

Except for Kobe Bryant’s wife.

Vanessa Bryant is part Hispanic and she wore a shirt that said, “Do I look illegal?” to the game.

The reference was clear.

She — and often the couple’s daughters — are regulars at Lakers games. They tend to stay out of the limelight, as much as that is possible for a high-profile family. But she gets noticed, and used that to make a statement at Game 1 against Arizona.

One thing to say you don’t hear about haitian’s flooding Florida waters killing, robbing, and here illegal. Why because, they are looked at aas being black and that alone drives people to patrol the waters to make sure they don’t get here illegal and if they do they send them right back. They should make it a federal law to be here illegal no matter race creed or origin. Send them to prison. Hit the road jack pack your shi*. Africian american males have been getting profiled for ever. A young black male in a white neighbor hood was shot is HIS own front yard. Why because the copthought since the young male was in a expensive car and in the driveway of a multi-million dollar home he had stole it. Fuc* that now you people see what we go through everyday. If your here illegal go back across the border.

You are very wrong about the color of illegals, There are thousands of others who let their visa exspire and and never return to their native country but if you look at your HISTORY every one except the indians or Native americans came from some where else some through slavery others to escape the tierney of the King of england. The mexicans really were at home until the the United States took (Texas, Arizona, California and New Mexico) and annexed them, so they are just coming back home.

That’s a high and mighty attitude to display given that Cubans were given preferential access to citizenship when they immigrated to this country due to the Red Scare. Even other refugees from oppressive regimes were not given carte blanche access to this privilege. Try to expess a little sympathy for other “…huddled masses yearning to be free”.

You are 100% correct! If a law is passed today that all Cubans must return to Cuba would He obey the LAW? probably NOT!!! A cuban is not legal untill he takes an Illegal trip and makes it to Shore. Ten feet from shore he must be sent back! By the way I hope all the people with The “It’s the Law” BS are 100% law abiding citizens, not Pot heads coke heads meth heads or any other ILLEGAl ACTIVITY!!! Only people that Obey the law ALL THE TIME Have a right to Complain and use that line! So people need to Check them selves and clean up there own house. By the way I am not an Illegal, but I am a Realist a Humanist and a Proud American!

If whites are so racist, these protesters have claimed, then what are the illegals doing here? Why not protest your own country? Why not protest the Mexican government? Better yet, folks, what will happen in Mexico if you are there illegally?

The biggest issue with the AZ law is that peace officers can stop any questionable person to see their papers. It’s not after some breaking of the law, it’s just on the officer’s feeling.
If I’m brown and go for a run without carrying a wallet, I could be in for a long evening. If you’re white and do the same thing, you have nothing to worry about. It’s not that officers will catch illegals that’s the problem, it’s that a segment of our citizenry would be exposed to different, discriminatory treatment. How’s that American?
Oh, I guess when you get down to it, it is typical American disregard for people who aren’t white: Until the 60s blacks were legally second class citizens, members of different races couldn’t marry, Japanese were interned in camps and lost their property, Native people were run off their land and treated like dirt.
So if I complain because I’m forced to always carry papers and you, if you’re white, don’t, I’m unAmerican. That’s logical.

What amazes me in this discussion is how people refer to themselves as LATINA, AFRICAN-AMERICAN, etc. It is obvious that you do not see your self as an AMERICAN…which is the issue. This is the same reason that the U.S. does not have a national language, because no-one idnetifies themselves as an AMERICAN. Where is the AMERICAN box on forms asking for RACE? If you live in the U.S. you are an AMERICAN, not a LATINA, not an AFRICAN-AMERICAN, etc.
Bottom line: if you want to become an AMERICAN, apply for citizenship, get an ID and pay taxes. If you are hiding and running from the law, then you are probably doing something illegal. I pity all the nay sayers to the AZ policy the next time there is some sort of attack on U.S. soil because we were to “scared” to protect our borders.

This PRO Basketball Talk, time to forget about race, forget about politic, we can get into a game and forget about everything else that’s wrong ion the world. Ms Kolbe is wrong, LOS Suns, were wrong. To use this Championship Final a place to be political, when it’s suppose to be fun, says something wrong about ALL of us that use this for a political agenda. Is there any thing we can do and enjoy without getting on our soap box, that would include me too.

Yes, I believe Kobe actually married Vanessa without a prenup, so if she is a gold digger, she could have received almost half of what he is worth. I believe she really loves Kobe and realizes sometimes it takes a major mistake to start focusing even more on the relationship, and that was a hell of a lesson for Kobe. I still can’t believe the girl he decided to screw around with, showed up at the hospital with some other dudes you know what in her underwear It’s so easy to get into the same old boring routine after having kids. I’ll bet those two are working really hard now to keep the marriage fresh, but you better believe Vanessa will never let Kobe forget about that stupid mistake he made in Colorado.
