Rockets assistant Turner to interview for head coaching gigs

May 13, 2010, 4:48 PM EST

Houston Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner recently told KRIV-TV in Houston (Hat tip to ESPN Chicago) that he will interview with the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls about a possible head coaching job.

Turner is a former NBA player, and was a player-coach in the CBA after he left the NBA as a player. He later became an assistant coach in the NBA, and has been an assistant under Rick Adelman in both Sacramento and now Houston. Both the Suns and Timberwolves interviewed Turner for their head coaching positions recently, but neither team ended up giving him the job. If Turner does end up getting a head coaching job, it would be another example of a longtime assistant for a great coach getting the chance to go out on his own.
