This article makes very little sense. The Jazz have given every indication they are keeping Matthews--praising him in every way, shape, and form this off-season.
This article paints the Jazz as a cheap team. Why? Before the Brewer, Maynor, and the semi-retired Harpring trades the Jazz were sitting on an 84 million dollar salary and they were able to cut it down to about 75 mil. They paid WELL over the luxury tax this last year and just today said they will pay it next year.
Did they lose much getting rid of that 10 mil? Harpring hadn't even played that season and now is a play-by-play guy. The Brewer trade meant streamlining the guard rotation and Matthews is the more consistent shooter. Plus, the Jazz and Brewer couldn't reach a log-term deal and it was affecting his play. Maynor, a 1st year 2nd round rookie, was the only really piece the Jazz lost, and he wasn't a huge part of the rotation.
The Jazz priorities over the off-season are Boozer, Matthews, Korver, and then Fesenko--with Matthews being the easiest to re-sign--probably in the 3-4 million dollar range like CJ miles's current salary. He'll be in Utah. The Jazz will pay for him regardless.
