Dwyane Wade says he and LeBron play well together, making meaningless headlines

Apr 25, 2010, 11:15 AM EDT

Thumbnail image for Wade_dunk.jpgWe all love some juicy gossip, and the “Where will LeBron play?” soap opera is the best one going right now. Followed closely by the “Where will Wade play?” one.

But now things have gotten ridiculous. Truly ludicrous. Take this comment (via AP) that is drawing headlines.

Speaking after practice in Miami on Saturday, one day before the Heat try to extend their season by forcing a Game 5 of their Eastern Conference first-round series against Boston, Wade acknowledged that he’s got reason to think he and James would work alongside one another.

“We play well together,” Wade said.

That is news?

What a stunning revelation. The headlines can’t be big enough — two of the best players in the game, two of the most unselfish, play well together.  We have pictures of them in the same uniform from Beijing we can run with that.

We need to start speculating about them playing together, reality be damned. As if LeBron’s going to ditch a championship caliber team, and Wade is going to ditch South Beach so they can both go play with no talent around them in New York. They both are clamoring to be part of a rebuilding effort again, they both keep talking about it all the time. It is so obvious.

If you buy that dream, I have invented a pill where you can lose all the weight you want without exercising and by eating whatever you want. And it tastes just like sugar. I’m happy to sell it to you at a very fair price.

Hate to burst the bubble, but next October LeBron will put on a Cavaliers uniform and Wade a Heat uni. They are not going to move. Players are going to come to them.

Maybe I’m wrong. But it is far, far, far more likely I’m right than the chances they play together somewhere. Them together is about as realistic as Santa Claus actually coming to your house this Christmas. It’s just the speculation of writers desperate for an angle, of columnists to lazy to come up with real insight into a series.

Can’t we all just stay somewhere near the realm of reality?

Why would LeBron go to Miami? It is Crash Wade’s town. James would NEVER play second-fiddle to anyone, including Crash.
Bosh is a meek puppy and would do whatever Crash says. CB makes sense in Miami, James…no.
As for either of them to New York, why go to a sunken ship?
James will stay in Cleveland, win it all this year AND next year.

Honestly, this trade doesn’t make sense.
Two superstar ball handlers, who pretty much play the same position (unless you want to move LeBron to the 4 position)
Heat need a player who can post up (read PF). Haslem is good hustle, quality defender, but not much of a scorer. Bosh would be a perfect fit.
Ship out O’Neal and get a whip for Beasley.

D.Wade could be going to Chicago next season so let’s wait. isn’t that exciting, it changes the whole thing when they meet again in the playoffs next season…

  8. Chad - Apr 26, 2010 at 2:55 AM

Are you retarded? Trade? What trade are you talking about? They are both free agents, so there will be no trade unless its Sign and trade. To superstar ball handlers I will give you but same Position? Which may that be? D-Wade usually plays 2 guard, since he stands what 6’4? Bron plays 3 Spot, so two totally different positions……

  9. Chetan - Apr 26, 2010 at 7:55 AM

All right you got me on the ‘trade’ comment. But if I were you, I would look up the way the 3 spot is being played nowadays. It is as good as a back court player (Kobe any1…and don’t lecture me on the triangle offense). Honestly, most people don’t realize that a SF is as good as a ball handler (the only exception is Carmelo, who actually plays a bit of post-up). Most of the younger PG’s are excellent scorers (Williams, CP3)
Keep basketball simple. Look at the success of Jazz/Suns over the years. Use high pick and roll (get a good ball handler (albeit some1 who wants to share) and a good inside post-up player)

you guys are freacken stupid lebron is way better than freacken wade what u see wade kill it once in awhile but lebrons always killen all the time. but really my oppinion on this is that heat should trien get the cavs to trade lebron for oneal

There isn’t any team in the NBA that can give both Lebron and D Wade max contract to have them play on the same team. Lebron and Wade would seek to get the maximum money. After paying both what would be left to pay the other players on the roster. It would have been easier if one wasn’t in the free agency market. The lakers couldn’t afford to keep shaq and kobe with each wanting max money. One has to go

this wud b smarter 4 lebron…great talent…not clutch!! dwade…clutch…check the stats from the ring!! they cud b the 2 & 3…however in the clutch…either cud play the point…beasley at the 3…that way u can play big…since no point guards exist in Miami presently!! u cud also go small, with lebron at the 4…there are literally 2 many options…however this team is in need of post play…offensively & defensively…j.o’neal & anthony cud b rotation pieces…but neither is “the answer” in the post!! however, with leberon, dwade, & beasley, “hall of fame” post play isnt needed…maily solid defense & rebounding!! i think they shud do it…this is dynasty material!!
