Cavaliers waive Darnell Jackson to make room for Ilgauskas

The 24-year old Kansas alum (this is not Darnell’s week) has a big body, some shooting range, and a national championship pedigree, but couldn’t quite bang effectively enough to be a role player with the Cavaliers. Jackson shot 43% from the field as a rookie, and has only shot 32% in limited minutes this season. 15 of Jackson’s 21 points this season came during a two-game stretch in November, when Jackson scored five points against the Warriors and 10 points against the Washington Wizards. Since then, Jackson hasn’t sniffed the rotation, and has made one field goal since November 18th. 

Jackson staying means that the Cavs will keep the injured Sebastian Telfair on the roster, at least for the time being. Telfair was the other player the Cavaliers acquired in the Antawn Jamison trade, but an injury has kept the former high school phenom from playing a minute for the Cavaliers. Apparently the Cavs hold out a sliver of hope for Telfair, as Jackson has been with the team for longer and would appear to pose less of a chemistry risk.
