Celtics make themselves feel better by laughing at Lakers

Mar 14, 2010, 1:15 PM EDT

The Celtics have not had a smashing month. They’ve bullied, beaten, out-ran and bludgeoned. They’ve seemed lifeless, shiftless, bored, and anything but a title contender. They lost to the Nets, for crying out loud. Wednesday, the Memphis Grizzlies, who haven’t been playing great lately, absolutely blasted the Celtics like they were a D-League squad.

So even after Friday night’s laugher over the hapless Pacers, coach Doc Rivers felt the need to employ some motivational tactics. The Boston Herald tells of how Rivers brought in some bulletin board material, picked out an especially damning story, and read it to the players. The story told of a team that found itself falling from contention, looking up at the Cavaliers, and who had been embarrassed on their own floor. The gag?

The story was from the L.A. Times, and was about the Lakers.

Wah-wah.

It’s interesting that Rivers is still trying motivational tactics for the regular season, as later in the story he says he’s going to rest Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in games down the stretch. but the Celtics have been struggling so much, their mindset has to start shifting from coasting to contention. At least this story might give them some peace of mind that everybody has some misery in the regular season.

But the Celtics have to hope their misery is done for the season, and that’s something their own effort controls.

They laugh at the Lakers, slap their knees, and then take a breath from their oxygen tanks.
Boston lost to the NETS, the Nets! at home! Doc Rivers is a clown.

The only motivation the Celtics ever get is when they play the Lakers and that is only triggerd by their HATRED for the Lakers. Hate-On Boston your season is over. Dump the Doc and his old playas.

Wow! Really? This is sad. Sounds like they are trying to get their mind off their own struggles. Babies!

Being a Laker fan as well,I can see Coach Jackson using that Times article as motivation. However for Doc Rivers to use it for his team,is both sad and absurd!!!Maybe him riding into the locker room,on a green and white Hovaround, would have been more appropriate. With a full size mirror in tow, rather than a bulletin board!!!!

I’m sorry but no one in Boston can talk about anyone else outside of Boston … I declared an official moratorium on any smack talk out of Boston … why? … BECAUSE THEY LOST TO THE NETS THIS YEAR … that will be all

The Celts are suppose to be eastern conference contenders but there losing to the Nets. The Celts are out the first round. They should’ve traded Allen when they had the chance. They could laugh at the Lakers all they want but the whole league laughed at them when they lost to the Nets at home! I’m sure there fans were laughing too! Good job on picking up Rasheed Wallace. They just keep getting older.

celtics have 2 more titles than the Lakers, wich the Lakers will soon catch and pass so you cant blame them for hating them! they are after all the NY Yankess of the NBA because of the following.1 more apearances in the finals than any other team 2 obiously more playoff aperances than anyone.3 best winning pct in the playoffs than anyone.4 more total wins in reg season and playoffs than anyone.but dont believe me you can look it up.. and most of bostons titles were won against better Laker teams with miracle comebacks .. except for the yr before last wich by the way it was the first you heard from them in like 20 yrs !it was real funny how they landed 2 marque players in the same offseason. hell the golden st warriors would of won the title with the adition of garnett and allen to their roster!

Celtics = One time big time team! that’s all…

Geez, Doc, laughing at the Lakers plight is so pathetic. Despite their misfortunes, LA is still on top of the Western Conference.
And Boston? Where are you guys now? On paper, this team is still formidable enough to get that chance to go to the Finals. Doc is doing a good job of having them struggle to take them there.
Just like what luffy said: One Hit Wonders.

Lets note this…the year the Celtics did win the Championship, Pierce, Garnett and Allen all had something to prove and superstars on worthless teams their whole lives. THEY WERE HUNGRY and them winning had NOTHING to do with Doc Rivers.
Now, they are old and content…oh, and nothing to fear for Cleveland and Orlando, and just in case they got past that, they won’t get past the Lakers.
