Ryan Hollins suspended two games

Mar 10, 2010, 5:39 PM EST

Minnesota’s Ryan Hollins has been suspended for two games for his two incidents with Dallas Maverick players on Monday, the NBA league office announced today.

Those suspensions start tonight, when the Timberwolves take on Denver. Which only seems fair since Denver’s front line is so banged up as well.

Hollins got in a little scuffle with DeShawn Stevenson early in the second quarter then with Dirk Nowitzki just three minutes before the end of the game. When it went down it was pretty clear Hollins was headed for a call from Stu Jackson and a suspension.

Ryan Hollins is a little punk.

Good to see the league has stepped in because something more has got to be going on here with Hollins.
This is the second game between Minnesota & Dallas in five days, and in a highlight from the first game, I was momentarily stunned by a play where Shawn Marion dove onto the floor to secure a loose ball & Hollins quickly dropped onto Marion’s exposed shoulder with the full force of his body weight. He had no real possibility of recovering the ball or even tying him up for a jump ball. It was very much like a late hit on a QB in a football game, & one has to question his intent. At the very least, he was reckless, which is just as bad as intent to injure, because injury can easily result from playing out of control.
For example, Anderson Varejao seems particularly effective as a player for the simple reason that with his out of contol vibe (& bouncy hair), he seems to threaten to topple over at any moment onto the side of somebody’s knee. As a result, I’m sure players must make it a point to give him some space.
Anyway, Hollins played for Dallas last season, so there must be some there there. Hopefully, Kurt Rambis will take him aside for a good talk.
