A.I. has always played and lived his life to excess. This is not a criticism. I acknowledge his all out effort which is what made him such a fantastic player. None of which means a thing compared to his daughter and family. I sincerely hope he can pull his life together which has priority over playing in the NBA.

A.I. – I too must say that I am a long-time fan. I think the thing that has so endeared me to you is the fact that for so many years I have watched as people (particularly the media) has just tried to pile on. I am not in the industry so I can’t say for sure but it appears to me as if the main problem is that you have always stayed true to your roots. They acted as if the “practice” statement a crime. I wonder sometime, “did they ever see you live?” I watched you play in Minnesota against Stephon Marbury (my guy also) and it amazed me how you ran, full speed, start to finish. For so many years you put it all on the floor and all they can do is hate. I know your tired A.I. but recognize one fact; “No matter what they say fans still love you dog…and they always will. If you don’t let them get you down there will always be a legion of fans rooting for you. Personally, I think you need to coach. Who better to take some of these talented kids who have to learn to overcome the bullXXXX than you?
I am praying that God’s little soldier remembers that he was gifted with the shoulders of a giant.

A lot of what might have been published may or may not be all true, so we can not judge, but if there is a problem with drinking, then he needs to handle that, not only for himself, but for his family, because that in itself is the root of some of the problems that people have, and when it gets scrutinized in what ever media feels it is nessisary for them to get on that band wagon, when they need to look more at them selfs, and see what’s in there cup, and sure Stephen can be a little over board with how he speaks, but so is Rush Linbaugh, and they do let Charles Barkley speak, but no one speaks about how he is made too look like the fool, when they (co-hosts) continue on like he had’nt said a word, and we has a society have lost the true fundamentals of communication, and courtesy in thrown out the window, as people only want to be heard, and are not poliet, and or even ask to excuse themselves, and cut off the person whom is speaking. And if he works at getting off that baby bottle, and resting that leg, he should be able to make a come back, and shut up all the critics, and perhaps not only will the fans come back, but maybe his life, people tend to kick people when they are down, what if you all were in his shoes, boo hoo, on you too.

No fan of SAS, but all he did is report what many sources have told him. I read SAS whole article and seems very fair – no piling on at all. It was widely noted in Denver that he lead by example on court by not sharing ball and no D, and lead off court by taking younger players clubbing all the time. One of numerous differences between AI & Billups was Chauncey telling young players to quit clubbing and concentrate on being professional baller. DUH!! As for drinking, it almost always is the CAUSE of problems (with family, friends, career, etc), not vice versa. It is a progressive illness, operative word being illness. Not piling on or judgmental. If he DOES have an illness, it is a health issue, one that I hope he can take care of for himself and his families sake. If he had cancer or MS would a report of that be piling on??

Not to excuse someone’s abuse of alcohol, but I tend to agree with billybill. Iverson has taken leave from basketball so if he indeed has a problem, let him deal with it in private please. I think Allen knows his short comming, so is it necessary to ride him into the ground Stephen A?

I agree that it is a shame that this is reported. It has clearly been stated that Iverson is going thru a rough part of his life. He has a sick child he is on the verge of loosing his wife and family and the best you can do is kick a man when he down because he may have turned to drinking to cope with this. I heart and prayers go out to Iverson to get his personal life together. The man has be criticized as much as any sport figure in history. Leave the man alone!

Steven Smith calls it as he sees it, and it’s his opinion based on many different sources whether they are right or wrong. He’s entitled to do that; you don’t have to believe it. Most puzzling to me is why one finds it hard to believe that Iverson may have a drinking problem? I’d be surprised if he didn’t.
The problem is going to get worse once he realizes that the fork on his plate is to be stuck in him – because he’s done!

I feel so bad for him, I pray that all changes for him and things work out for him. It has to be hard having a sick child and on top of that a drinking problem. IT is only magnified because of who he is….there are many in his situation. I will continue to pray for him and his family. Iverson fan forever.

So nice to see that Steven Smith’s has fallen off the National TV. He is without a doubt the worst writer, reporter, I have ever seen. Just because your loud & obnoxious doe not make you smart or good at your job. This guy thinks everyone should bow & listen to him. He can’t even get on ESPN or any other cable network & that is saying something about the man. As for Iverson, not my business & it isn’t Steven Smiths either. Thats what is wrong with American today, the press thinks everyone has the need to know personal business. No crime in having a problem so why report it?

Where there’s smoke there is fire. It’s nothing to beat the guy up about, quite the opposite. Hopefully he decides to make a stand and live a full and productive life without alcohol. My life has been 100 times better since I gave up the abuse of alcohol. Some people can drink socially and some of us like it a bit too much. Good luck Allen.

Duh! Stephan Smith is right and Mr. Iverson needs to address this issue or he’ll be swept out to sea.
To anyone who’s covered the NBA, post game celebrations (win or loss) for Mr. Iverson meant spending excessive time and money, including erasing the entire contents of a bottle (or more), on high end tequila. When it was closing time, the bottle was empty and Mr. Iverson was still ready for more.
Alcoholism is an illness and right now Mr. Iverson has it.
Get well. When that process begins, everything else will improve.

Even though I’ve never been a Stephen A. Smith fan I at least respected him as a journalist. However, starting with the comments that he made about Tiger Woods and now this, I’m starting to believe that he has some issues of his own..which is even more reason why he should just shut up. What he does is not really journalism as much as it is “judgilism”, which he seems to be good at. I’ve never heard a journalist speak as though he literally hates the person that he’s speaking about. Stephen A. Smith has anger management problems or at the very least narcissttic personality disorder and I suggest he seek help. Just remember, judge not; lest ye be judged.

I’ve been an Allen Iverson fans every since 2001 when i got to see him play in the NBA Finals. I was never a basketball fan but he won me over with his drive and despite being against the odds. He was a relentless basketball player. He made me believe that i can do anything. He was made to be the badboy of the NBA. But deep down he was human like everybody else. Even doe his early career he made mistake, he never made excuse he stood up like a man later years an apologizes for his action. In recent years Allen Iverson has been traded alot and been from one team to another. Allen Iverson if you reading this i want you to know that i know you been going thru a tough time, but never give up and you have many fans like me that Love you dearly and wanna see you comeback at the level you were a couple years ago. I know that somethimes things don’t work in your favor, but thats life. I know you can do it so be strong and comeback on the best level yet.. I love you and keep your head…
