Good point, you are right; it was Billy that gave Ed a clean slate.
As far as the youth, I have no misconceptions of these guys developing into All-Stars.
My point is that we are better to try to develop them into role/rotation players (Thad and Jrue might develop into solid starters) rather than have sit behind Willie, Sam and whatever is left of Elton Brand. This team is going to have to be really bad or really lucky to get good again; playing for ping-pong balls is the best way to do so at this point.
That being said, you still need to have the right guy pulling the trigger; I can't say that I have any faith in Ed, Ed (Snyder)and Eddie (Jordan)...

JM it was Billy King who traded away Iverson and then bought out Weber. Stefanski came in and his first move was to trade Korver to create more cap space used on Brand. And if you think that the players you mentioned are building blocks, give me a break. Williams, Young and Speights play no defense, plus Williams is better suited to be a 6th man instant offense off the bench...they need a real PG and some guys willing to play defense. I will agree with you a need GM is needed!!

The problem is Ed Stephanski. Ed started out strong (Getting the Sixers out of the Iverson and Webber contracts) but has really killed the team with his acquisitions and coaching hires. Tony D and Eddie Jordan are as awful as it gets; not blowing this mess up at the deadline means that we are set back yet another year.
I know that Brand is an Albatross, but unloading Sam and Andre would be a start (The expiring McGrady move that NY made was perfect, though the Sixers would be better served buying him out).
I would love to see the main rotation consist of Holiday, Williams, Meeks, Young, Speights, and Smith (developmentally and the draft pick they would yield). Until they get a GM who will scrap this mess and start over, expect slightly less than mediocrity.
