Trade Deadline: Nate is a Celtic

Feb 18, 2010, 2:04 PM EDT

Thumbnail image for nba_robinson.jpg2/18 2:06 pm: The details of this trade seem to finally be finalized. According to Hahn, the deal is Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to Boston for Eddie House, JR Giddens and Bill Walker. There are no picks involved. The Knicks will waive just acquired Brian Cardinal to make room.

With this, the Knicks have about $32 million in cap space this summer.

2/17 2:20 pm: Alan Hahn, the Knicks beat writer for Newsday, says said the deal is done — the Celtics get Nate Robinson. Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo says it’s not yet official, but it will be soon.

“D’Antoni wants House, and (Boston) really wants Nate, so everyone is motivated here,” one source told Y! Sports.

The details of the deal are Eddie House heading to New York for the remainder of this year, plus a second round pick and another player from the end of the bench, for Robinson (that has yet to be finalized and the Celtics may have to throw in a scrub as well, however). The trade is not a surprise, and while the Lakers may have dipped their toes in the water, Robinson was basically always bound for the Celtics.

For Boston, it means they get a backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo — a spot that was a need. Whether Robinson will be a good fit with the defense-first system in Boston remains to be seen, and his shot selection will drive the Celtics faithful nuts, but he can create his own shot far better than House and he will score for Boston, and they need that. However, don’t underestimate the loss of Eddie House and his ability to hit threes under pressure, his smooth stroke could be missed in the playoffs.. (Robinson’s outside shot is far less consistent.)

For the Knicks, they get a better outside shooter in the short term (picture house spotting up on the break), but it is really about saving money. However it is a meaningless deal in the money sense if the trade with Houston for Tracy McGrady for Jared Jeffries, whose salary hangs over the Knicks for next season.

wow buddy you seem like someone who likes the smell of their own farts, yeah forget shaq and tmac theyre terrible.just because a player isnt in the superstar form they were in in years past doesnt mean they serve no purpose.teams need good roleplayers off the bench.Dont you think every team would love to have a roster full of all-stars but theres not enough talent or money.next youll be saying tim duncans washed up,screw kevin garnett-he lost it.bet you wouldnt say that to rasheeds face.Im happy bout nate comin to town,we need some youth and energy(off the bench and in general)and he can provide that.I like eddie but he is a one trick pony, granted its a good trick but he has trouble handling the ball and he isnt very good at creating his own shot.

    Pros:
    1. Nate can help with second chance points
    2. A little bit better handles and speed
    Cons:
    1. Didnt increase bench defensive skill or height
    2. Three points is more than two, and House is 1 of thebetter catch and shooters of the league
    Middle Weight:
    1. An Eddie House 3 can electrify the team and fans, just as much as a Nate Robinson dunk
    Personal Opinion:
    1. Its EDDIE MUTHA F’IN HOUSE Every C’s Fan loves him
    2. Its Nate Slam Dunk Robinson, honestly think we were thinking of the name rather than player skill
    3. BAD TRADE FOR CELTICS

  4. Joe - Feb 19, 2010 at 2:15 AM

The knicks need to get dntoni out of there… rebuilding a team don’t mean u got hav the players , fans pissed off. How many years already? Robinson or Marbury were not hurting the knicks..

  6. jstyles - Feb 19, 2010 at 12:28 PM

hate the trade. LOVE EDDIE HOUSE. MUCH BETTER SCORER ESPECIALLY COMING OFF THE BENCH. JUST DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE. BEING 31 YEARS OF AGE AT 6″1 IS A GREAT SIZE WHEN IT COMES TO STILL BEING ABLE TO PLAY AND BONES STILL INTACT. LOVE EDDIE. SAD TO SEE HIM GO. GOOD ONE AS USUAL DANNTY

Bravo!!!!! At least someone here is thinking with their head! And that’s coming from a Knick fan!!!!!

  8. TheTRUTHx1000 - Feb 20, 2010 at 10:03 AM

Dude what are u smokin! Do u mean the same Atlanta team Nate scored 41 on coming off the bench while shutting them down on defense!!!

  9. TheTRUTHx1000 - Feb 20, 2010 at 10:07 AM

Bad trade period if your a Knick fan!!! N Robinson is a better guard than House, Duhon or Douglas. If your using the excuse of clearing up some money to go after a premier player like L.J. or D Wade after the seasons over , do you think they’re more likely to come here with a N Robinson at guard or House,Duhon or Douglas? Nate was traded for one reason and one reason only; D ant’ hated him! Simply put he’s a better guard than Duhon and Douglas put together.
I’ve seen Gallo make some serious errors of his own on the court and not have nearly as much grief thrown his way. Oh and by the way he isn’t the Knicks savior as many claim him to be. He’s waaaaay too inconsistent as a shooter..D Lee is one of the very few bright spots on the team and he’d be even better at his natural position (forward). Everyones also forgetting that the Knicks might not even have him next year. You take that add an aging, injury prone McGrady and lack of a true center along with no point guards what so ever to the mix and why would any true NBA superstar want to come play here!!!
Just like Ariza, Crawford, Z Thomas, Frye, McDeyess and others N Robinson will be added to the long list of players that the Knicks have traded away that will flourish with another team!!
Hey how about this for an idea trade our wacky coach D Ant’, fire our GM Wally Walsh and confiscate the Knicks from the Dolans!!! Maybe then we will be able to turn our team around.

  10. TheTRUTHx1000 - Feb 20, 2010 at 10:13 AM

THANK YOU. At least there are a few chemically balanced people on this site!!!! How do you walk through the door and go to a 7 man rotation and wonder why we’re losing by 25-35 pts!!!If he doesn’t like or know a player he doesn’t play ‘em bottom line!!!
    TRADE D ‘Ant!!!
    FIRE Washed out Walsh!!!
CONFISCATE the Knicks from the Dolans!!!!
That’s the recipe for success in NY!!

Your entry reminds me of when I was a boy growing up in Kansas. My pappy used to say “When life give you lemons, make lemonade”. But he was a hopeless alcoholic who never made much sense so I never paid much attention to him. Have a great day!

The truth speaks the truth, are the rest of you retaaded?

  14. ray - Feb 22, 2010 at 2:10 AM

Eddie was perfect for Boston. Gave them that needed Spark off the bench! He did not have a big ego and blended well with the team! If they trade anyone, it should be an older player to get someone with real value. Sheed needs to go anyway. Talk about an over rated player! Post player that wants to shoot 3’s…Doc would have made a better trade!

  15. Larry - Feb 25, 2010 at 8:56 PM

    Love the trade
