I think this is a down ground for the Cavaliers. They will not win a championship. The door is wide open for the Lakers. The Cavs might need even make it to the finals. With this trade, the Celtice and the Magic can beat Cleveland in a 7 game series.

honestly..all i hear is Z, the guy’s a scrub and was getting eaten in the playoffs, his time is done..and none of you guys are really considering jamison’s talent he averages a double double, 20 and 10. Cavs are preparing for the ring..and they need to pass orlando in order to do that and they cant with z on howard, jamison will put in 3 times the amount of work that z did

Ugh i get so anoyed at some of you retarded fans who don’t even know basketball, and just say Wooo my team is the best or my playa is the best(and i’m not even a cavs or lakers fan). Do some freakin research. those who say that cutting Z will make the Cavs drop. ummm….knock some sense into yourself. What the Cavs are doing here is preparing to murder the magic in the playoffs. How did the magic kill the cavs in the playoffs? with Dwight and his perimiter shooters like Lewis and Hedo. they couldn’t guard any of them. LBJ couldn’t do everything. Dwight was KILLING Z. So what did the cavs do. get a bigger and stronger man. shaq. then the magic had lewis and hedo. both are around six eight or somthin. lebron had hedo but that left Lewis. thats the key lewis. he tore them apart. So what do the cavs do? they get jamison who can at least put a hand in lewis’s face. Boom now there are no problems with the magic. And as fo the lakers, they will easily be beaten down. they don’t have the perimeter game like the magic did against the cavs.

the cavs are going to be definite contenders for the final the new look will give them alot of speed versatility and open shots for lebron,you see shaq definatley wont be playing all those minutes but they have a definite close with the likes of him and mo williams Jamison is a husler and an alright 3 point shotter/passer ,and there is no shortage in point guardtalent for the cavs.

Z is coming back in 30 days to cleveland because the wizards are trying to save room on the cap. Secondly, the cavs have one of the better guard plays in the nba with mo williams and delonte west. rose is decent, but cant lead a team…the cavs do not need their guards to lead because of LeBron. Please, just do some research before making idiotic posts.

It is quite obvious that the majority of the people posting here do not understand how trades and the salary cap in the nba work.
First off, the cap in the NBA is “soft”. This means that teams may exceed the cap room, however they must pay an overage fee..The cavs prior to the trade were about 40 million over. They have no problems paying the overage fee because of a large market. Laker fans, dont worry you too are over the cap..Now, a team like the Wizards who are rebuilding, doesnt have the large market and affordability, therefore they will release the larger EXPIRING contract of Ilgauskas. Ilgauskas, then by nba rule must wait 30 days before he can sign with another team. He will sign back on with the Cavs because that is where he wants to play. Which breaks down the trade to
WIZARDS GET – 2010 first round pick, and the cavs 59th overall pick from 2009 (some NBA d-league player)
CAVS GET – Antawn Jamison. The cavs made the deal to be able to give different looks on the floor. Sebastian Telfair also was picked up, however he is injured and likely to never play for the cavs. even if healthy, he still would be a 4th choice PG on team behind delonte west, mo williams and daniel gibson
So for all the Laker fans who say the Cavs lost Z and therefore any chance of beating the Lakers…Please just do a little research first…Being a Cavs fan (cleveland sports in general) you learn not to “guarantee championships” so everyone who thinks its gonna be Lakers/Cavs final, dont under estimate anyone.

I agree thtat this increases chances of a championship for Cavs this year (and you can pencil z in for 30 days and back to Cavs). That said it is interesting that few are talking about how this helps/hurts Cavs long term. Jamison is 34. This helps Cavs now but will it keep Lebron in town for years to come? Really not sure. Amare was more of a wild card. But you could see at least upside being intriguing to Lebron to stick around. I just do not see it with Jamison. This is basically a one year try, and not a long term landscape change that Gasol to Lakers was. It will also be curious to see how Jamison handles the big stage. It is not like he has a history playing in big games. Will he hit those outside shots in crucial playoff games. Probably but maybe not…

Z will be back with Cleveland in 30 days. Catch up. Jamison not only brings it *every night*, but he’s a class act. we just added a 20/8 guy at the cost of…a 30-day break from Z (and all of his 12 minutes/game).
Varejao will now play center in relief of Shaq until Z gets back. Our Power Forward rotation now includes Jamison, Varejao, Hickson AND Leon Powe, who will be back this month.
Cavaliers are now clearly the best and deepest team in the NBA…and have the thoughness to go with the talent. Lakers fans are delusional if they think Farmar, Fish, Brown, and Vujacic make your team anything but a good laugh.
Cavs > Lakers. After July, the rest of the world will know it too.

I’m not sure getting rid of those big men constitutes a good trade. Even if the Wizards buy out Ilgauskas’s contract there’s no guarantee he comes back to Cleveland. I think Boston would love to have him and he would have a future there. Cleveland has shown him that he has no future with them.

Although on paper, this looks like a good trade for the Cavs. But, I think if the Cavs do make it to the finals, this may come back to bite them. Z would fit in nicely if the Lakers decided to employ the “Hack-a-Shaq.” Z is an excellent free throw shooter. Jamison is a nice player, but he is not a center and without 2 good centers against Bynum and Gasol, I think they may have bit themselves in the foot.

if they get z back, that’s fantastic. If i were a cavs fan, i’d still worry about inability of coach to adjust offense when playoff teams key in on lebron and other cav’s shots stop falling. but, they are better defensively, so they should be ok

I agree. I’d say that it’s better than a 50/50 chance that Washington buys out Z’s contract, and he’s back with the Cavs in 30 days. They’re not going to rebuild around Z when they’ve got young bigs sitting on the bench who really could use the playing time. Plus they’d save even more money this season by buying Z out, whom is certainly not in their long term plans.

Well said, Doctor. And I would just add the Lakers also have a tough, quiet veteran leader in Derek Fisher who has been known to hit some really big shots when it really counts. He might’ve lost a step, but he has heart & he’s a winner. & young Jordan Farmar’s got his back. We even had a Sasha-sighting recently. Now that’s a true embarrassment of riches. Like a ring on every finger!

Great trade for the Cavs. Z will be missed but this definitely is a hands down win for the Cavs. Sure Z helped when Shaq is on the bench, but hopefully after 30 days the Cavs will have Z back, if not its not a huge loss as he will be hanging up the shoes next year anyways.

Ilgauskas could conceivably end up back with the Cavs with a buyout from the Wizards. He’s too close to the end of his career to be going through a rebuilding process. The Wizards just wanted to rebuild, give their two best players a chance with better teams, and cut their losses in contract money. The Cav’s first round pick is unlikely to result in an impact player. It will though give the Wizards something to use for a possible trade up in the draft after the lottery. This is a good move for them considering their past misfortunes in the lottery.

It really matters not who the Cavs acquire. In the end, no team, including the Cavs, will be a match for the Lakers. Lebron still has to carry the load, while the Lakers are winning even without Kobe in the lineup. The Lakers are just too deep with the addition of Shannon Brown. The Lakers fourth best player, Lamar Odom, is the star of all but the Cavs, and even then, he is the best all-position player in the league. With Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Artest and Kobe, the Lakers are virtually unbeatable in the playoffs.
