I agree, Boston won't break up their nucleus for nothing, especially not to a conference contender like Cleveland. Boston is sputtering, but they're not in a position to throw the whole season away by giving up Ray Allen.
In terms of trade value, Phoenix in this case would be trading to rebuild and save money, not to get equal value. Amare will probably walk at the end of the season, so best off dealing him now for a J.J. Hickson who could potentially pan out into a pretty good player.
I, for one, love the Amare trade idea, who can help spread the floor with his jump shooting ability and help out on the glass. You have Varejao off the bench for defense, hustle, and rebounding. Amare and Varejao can play together in a small lineup when Shaq goes out of the game. I think it's a perfect trade.

Do you really think Boston would give Ray Allen to Cleveland? Think about that for a second....
Larry Hughes was a BAD fit, Damon Jones & Donyell Marshall were bad fits. But Drew Gooden wasn't too bad, and Shaq seems to be fitting in nicely right now.

Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Shaq, Amare... why is it whenever the Cavs decide to go after some talent to put around Lebron, they go after players who are a terrible fit for their team? Ray Allen makes sense. They've needed a reliable scorer that stretches the defense and compliments Lebron's slashing style for years. The price for Allen's expiring contract can't be too high.
